In the process of building/re-building my front axle to put in the Jeep - full-width 1-ton. The dust shields are shot - rusted thru. Can I ditch them without havng to worry about anything? Or is there some reason I really need to keep them?

Thanks.

I took mine off at the last axle rebuild. No more getting rocks stuck up in there, haven't noticed any badthings from leavin' them off.

I havent either... but last time this was brought up those of us who've done this and noticed no difference were pretty much called idiots ;) Such claims as not having it would cause poor braking in the wet.. how a dust shield thats 1/4" away from an open rotor would keep it drier I have no idea.

GONE!!!!

I took mine off, the only ones worth keeping are teh ones on the front of a heavy 1/2 ton, There 3/16ths or greater metal, they will support a chevy with out a problem..

but like someone said pull them off.. they collect dirt and rocks..
