OK guys, what is the magic way to remove the shafts out of an SF D60? I removed the 4 retaining studs and the backing plate is loose. I hooked up my hub puller and slide hammer which had no effect. Even took a couple whacks at it with a sledge. So what's the secret?

I think you have to remove the little C-clips on the ends of the axles. The Dana SF D-60 diagram says it has them.

That's only if it is a c-clip version;)

I used a BAPB (Big Ass Pry Bar) and mine finely came out on my 44. It's the same design as a non c-clip version.

Crap, never even thought to look for c-clips. It's out of an 80 F250 so maybe it's new enough to have them. Guess I'll pull the cover and look.

Looking around on the web, it looks like some 30 spline D60's have C-clips. According to this chart from ARB, my 80 F250 D60 would have 35 spline shafts. Not sure if it's correct, and also doesn't matter a whole bunch since I'd need to get them cut down and get the flanges redrilled so It wouldn't be a huge savings over just buying some new Moser shafts.

Thanks again. Got it apart tonight. 35 spline c clip factory axles.
