Driving a vehicle straight up a rock face can provide heart-pounding excitement for fans - and real risks for competitors. With its thrills and chills, there is no more exciting sport in the U.S. today than rock crawling.

Maxxis has announced that it will sponsor the 2005 United Rockcrawling and Off-Road Challenge series, a grueling series of events held at locations throughout the western U.S. Maxxis, a UROC sponsor in 2003 and 2004, has this year expanded its support to include all UROC events: the Pro National series, the Extreme East and West events, and the SuperCrawl National Championships.

Longtime fans know that rock crawling demands intense concentration and split-second timing from its two-person teams, consisting of a driver and spotter. The spotter stands outside the vehicle, helping to guide the driver through obstacles.

A strong supporter of rock crawling competitors as well as events, Maxxis will also soon add new teams to its 2005 sponsorship roster. The company is proud to expand its involvement in this growing sport and looks forward to another great year with UROC.

That's Great, but I'm curious;

Exactly what does this mean to the competitors? Will the contribution Maxxis makes lower the competitors entry fee's? Will they be providing contigency money for the winners, or free/discounted tires?

Thanks,

Well, if they're supporting UROC, they're helping to make it possible for UROC to actually HAVE events. I'm probably a little biased since I'm now in the event promoting business (in addition to being a competitor for the past 17 seasons), but it seems to me the BEST way to support the sport is to help defray the cost of having events so that MORE events can take place ;)

BTW, not to help them sidestep your question, because it is a legitimate question. Just had to throw my $.02 in on where I feel help is most warranted :D

Sold last year's buggy, new buggy for '05 in progress. It'll be riding on Maxxis rubber.... :cool:

As far as what Maxxis does for UROC and competitors, they help out certain teams with tires and money for entry fees, etc. Their sponsorship of UROC includes a support vehicle to assist teams with repairs and whatnot, as well.
