To make a long story short:
I'm working overseas and would recently purchased a fairly decent 2F, tranny, and xfer case that I'd like to have rebuilt.
However, there are no professional engine builders near my hometown (southwest VA) where my FJ 40 is currently. So, I'm looking for some cruiser heads in the area who might be able to point out someone or who may even be able to do the work for me. As you can imagine, not being there first hand really complicates matters.
Base upon the photos I've seen and the info provided by the seller, the engine rebuild may be as simple as honing the cylinder walls, putting on new rings, and reassembling with new gaskets. It is a fairly low milage engine but has been in the elements for a few years. The tranny is tight, but I'd rather replace the clutch and bearings while I'm at it. Finally, the transfer case may need new seals, if indeed it needs anything at all.
Budget is a big concern with this project. The wife is already fuming about about the used drivetrain purchase and I can't devote too much addition money to the project without incurring her wraith when I get back to the States next fall. So, if you happen to know of anyone in that area who could help me out on the cheap, I'd be most appreciative.
Thanks in advance.
