I just got a truck that has a big block in it. I planned on changing the cam but supposedly it has a bent fuel pump push rod. He put a electric fuel pump on it so he never had to worry about it. I was thinking since the rod come far enough out to not push on the cam, that I should be able to pull the cam out, maybe having to twist it around some of the lobes.
Does that sound possible?
Has anyone ever had a bent fuel pump push rod?

How the fawk do you bend a fuel pump push rod without destroying the cam?! If its out of the way it shouldn't be a problem at all.

No shit-- cannot imagine it being bent, maybe mushroomed on one end? Or previous owner put the pump in incorrectly damaging the pump lever.

I had a big block with a similar problem. Some mechanic had put a bolt in to hold up the pushrod, overtightened it and started the engine without loosening the bolt. Bent and scored up the rod so bad that the rod wouldn't come out. I don't know if the cam will come out or not with it still in there but when the pump mounting plate is off there is good acess to the pushrod. I just welded a bolt to the end and used a slidehammer to get it out.
P.S. Do you want some video of your truck at the 2002 EJS off road design run?

The truck is actually my dads truck he built, when he got the truck, the motor had to have a few things done and they were changing the fuel pump and couldnt get the push rod out, so he just put a block off plate on it and left it alone, hasn't had a problem with it, but one of the lifters is ticking and I would like to put a bigger cam in it as it has the stock one in it.

even if it is off the lobe i doubt it is clear of the cam bearing surfaces. does it move at all? it might just have some crap built up around the top section in the block. mabey tap it in to the cam and get it topped out and then rotate the cam and free it up, move it back n forth to get some oil on it.

I asked my dad about doing that and he said he did that and it wouldn't come out. He wasn't sure if it was bent or had some gunk on it. He is also an old man :D
So I will give it a try when I get time to swap the cam.
