Aw man, my driver's side door won't open on my 92 z71. THe latch mechanism seems jammed. Anyone have a good idea about how to release the door? Thanks.

I am betting you don't lube them regular. so take a can of wd40 and spray through the gap at the lock and see if you can get it lubbed up. then work the striker by pushing in & out on the door. try the handle once in a while , it should just pop open.

can you tell if the handle is releasing the latch? or is it just floating in air?

Been there. If you're really, really, lucky you can spray some Kroil or SeaFoam penetrating oil on the mechanism-WD40 won't touch it. Roll the window down on the other side, and watch carefully what parts move. There's a lever which rubs the rear of the door by the latch, which gets rusty and jams up. You'll see it moving on the good door, and jammed in the up position on the stuck door. Squirt that puppy with the premium penetrant. If you have an ultra-long screwdriver or something you can get down there with, you can nudge it to return to the open position so you can get the door panel off to do it right. Before the nightmare was over for me, I had a 1x4" hole cut in both doors on my '85 GMC. If they changed the latches significantly you're on your own, but I'll bet they're the same shit design.

The handle feels like the door is locked..already had looked at the good side and noticed that the lever on the bad side was not moving...The wd40 didnt do anything, I even tried to pry it loose with some stiff wire with a loop ( throught the top of the door) ..didnt budge... gues I will spring for some preemo lube and try again...btw.. the key cylinder position is stuck in a horizontal position ( instead of vertical) and wont budge either.. thanks for the help...
