: Trying to decide if i should sell
Fj62CruiserBum 01-24-2005, 03:26 PM well ive done all the maintainence on my landcruiser, kept it in good shape, havnt really set it up for problems and this is the 5th problem ive had since november 13th. So far about 1000 bucks has gone into it and im just sick of it. I am considering selling so how much would you say a 1989 Fj62 with 135000 miles and no rust would go for
eshelbyk 01-24-2005, 03:38 PM Don't sell!
Any new-to-you rig like this is going to go through the same sort of ownership change pains. If you use quality parts and take care of it the problems will taper off. The problems you might be seeing are the $500 alternators and the $700 smog pump or the freaking $300 4wd solenoids that Toyota gets away with selling. Some things have ways around, some things you just have to put out the cash and be content that the part will probably not fail for a long time.
The payoff is intangible, but when I'm way out in the boonies knowing I've put quality ahead of shortcuts to save money, I feel a little more confident that I'll come home on my terms.

4x4Poet 01-24-2005, 07:51 PM Tell us about the five problems since Nov 13.
fj40_rico 01-24-2005, 10:04 PM Any old car you get is going to be the same way. I knew that when I got my 40 I was going to be spending money on it. You also have to realize that wheeling is rough on trucks. I've never done any hard wheeling but I know that someday something will break and you have to able to fork out the cash to fix it.
You can always get a second job to pay for the expensive hobby :D. That's the only way I can !

DaTracta 01-24-2005, 10:16 PM make payment on a new car or spend the payment money on your old car to make it what you want and reliable... cost the same either way....

DaTracta 01-24-2005, 10:28 PM thats what I have to tell MYSELF!!!
65SWB45 01-24-2005, 10:54 PM November 13th! That's nothing. I went thru two years of HELL dealing with all the 'deferred maintainance' BULLSHIT in my first cruiser, which was 17 years old when I bought it. I kept telling myself that a vehicle is made of a finite number of parts, and that sooner or later it would stop. IT DID!
How you deal with problems says more about you than the truck.
And eshelbyk:
WORD
:)
ken79fj40 01-25-2005, 07:01 AM Like others have already said, a 10,15,15,30 year old vehicle is going to break. But you have to weigh that against a payment on a new vehicle. I've spent a ton of cash on my fj-40 and theres still lots more to spend. Of course I don't use it as a daily driver, just bought a new tacoma for that. Old vehicles can be cheap, or can cost you dearly. A few years ago, i had to put a timing chain, clutch, transmission, and a rear diff in my 89 toyota pickup. All within six months. Even then, the truck wasn't worth much, probably less than the parts I put into it, but at the time it was my only pickup, and I had to fix it. No way was I shoveling my driveway (the pickup has a plow), or going to the dump in my fiance's 4 runner, or worse yet, in the bmw I had at the time. But since then it's only needed one brake caliper and a $20 muffler. And it has 200k on it. So fix it, it'll come around and be good to you again.

Oh No it's not the same. The cruiser may have some flaws but once it's fixed it's fixed....we all know how dependable they are. But of course, we are always messing with it even if does not need the attention. People tend to forget, when they get something that old, issues will arise. Hell, I'm a old bastard and I have issues, my wench has not gotten rid of me.... :flipoff2: :D
mantis 01-25-2005, 02:32 PM November 13th! That's nothing.
Yep. Every cruiser I have owned sat in my garage for at least 6 months before I ever drove it on the road. Hopefully I'll get my 45 on the road in the next few months, or else that will have been in the garage for a year.

Fj62CruiserBum 01-25-2005, 06:17 PM i was more asking how much its worth
You could ship it to me in Seattle and be forever free the the future repair costs. (surprised no one else suggested it)
Fj62CruiserBum 01-26-2005, 06:05 PM wow... i was dumb i finally came to my senses and realized how much i love my cruiser.... thanks guys not selling :D

Kaderabek 01-27-2005, 05:57 AM Rent a car for a week, take your 62 to David Dearborn at Urban Land Cruisers, leave it and have him sort it out. Be well worth it in confidence factor alone.
