I have a buddy with a '95 K3500 diesel 5 speed and the four wheel drive just quit working. Went through the full diagnosis loop and have come down to it being the relay that is on the firewall immediately above the motor. When you pull the lever into 4x it engages power to the relay, but i'm not getting any power out of the relay.
Shopped around and apparently the 1 ton relay is a dealer only part and they want $60 for one. He doesn't want to spend that much if that's not what it is, so I wanna bypass the relay and try to get the actuator to pop.
My question is about the relay. Does it supply power to the actuator or does it only give the actuator a ground? If I were to pull the relay and try to get the actautor to engage would i only need to jump between a set of wires or would I have to supply power to the actuator side of the harness? Which wires need crossed?
