I have decided to re-do the valves and machine the head on my '73 1f and am in need of some advice. Where can I get a cheap o.e.m. head gasket? also, how much should I shave off the head? The motor was frozen when I got it and am putting the head on a different motor.
As far as the head gasket, cool cruisers has a complete engine gasket set on sale, but it is still $70 and I don't need all of the gaskets.

You might have issues with a 73 F head on an earlier F motor b/c the oiling to the head/rockers changed at some point in 1973... If your engine uses a copper tube to feed the rockers and your head doesnot, its going to take some more effort.
Also there are two styles of headgaskets for 1973 F motors too, so pick accordingly.
Lastly, Felpro makes a head set that is great quality. I would be very skeptical of an entire gasket set for $70.

Like Brett said Felpro head set is good stuff. I have used them on a few cruiser heads and never had a problem at all.

we've had two cruisers that had felpros fail...both were fine with oem gaskets. get ahold of cdan for the best deal.
