I am looking at a scrambler for a trail rig. How do you cut the bulkhead so you can climb into back? Not looking for what to cut with. more like were to cut it out..

You don't.

It's bolted in.

doesn't the scrambler bulkhead just unbolt?

wow it's bolted in. That makes it ease.

is it as wide as a TJ? I think it is the same. But I haven't much exposure to a scrambler.

This one is in very good condition.
looks like it has a leak at the Tranny.
what are the rust spots to look for or any other things to watchout for

What options are best?

Basically same as a CJ7.

Frame near spring hangers, esp near the back
floor boards
and around the bulkhead

Not sure where you are, but they're getting pricey. I paid 3500 for mine 3 years ago. I've been offered 4500, and that without an engine or tranny.

Wide you mean body or axle???
If its an 81 it has the short track axle
if its an 82 through 86 its the standard with.
also if it is an 86 there is a small chance it came stock with a dana 44. but this is a rare find. It also most likley has the dana 300 transfer case.
As far as the body goes ive never measured it but i am pritty sure it is the same width as a tj or pritty damn close.
hope some of this helps.

also look on the frame behind the moter mounts mine has cracked sevral times in this area. other that that the usual cj jeep areas apply also make sure to look at the power steering pump area mine ripped clean off....

lets open this can of worms. save your money by buying a cj7 or a yj. then cut the rear fenders alot and slide the rear axle back 8 or so inches. you now have an inexpensive alternative to the expensive cj8. plus, you don't have to bob the bed to get it through a trail. oh, wait, this is what we all do already. hmmm... old idea. maybe the prices of scramblers will come down from the lofty 10k range.

did you ever stop to think that not EVERYONE bobs scramblers?? Heck, not everyone that has a scrambler wheels it either.... they are getting rare now adays, and I like to see a nicely restored scrambler now and again... newbie...

When I first bought my Scrambler the plans were to bob the bed and make one hell of a trail rig. I then began to think about it. All my wheelin buddies told me I should leave the body alone and build my 5 into a trail rig. The rarity is why I changed my mind.

On a side note, The dude I bought my Scrambler from)a BIG scarmbler nut who almost pasted out when I tolded him I was going to bob the bed):D told me not to wheel it without the bulkhead in. He said it would buckle the tub just about the doors in heavy flex . He had done this to his trail Cj-8.

told me not to wheel it without the bulkhead in. He said it would buckle the tub just about the doors in heavy flex If your that flexy, you have a frame issue, the bulkhead doesn't do anytrhing 'cept give the half top something to help keep out drafts. I'd rather see a clean stock Csrambler, too. You can start with a CJ-6 and the bobing is a non-issue. or use a JP Off Road CJ-8 Bob aluminum tub.

Thanks for all the info. I wasn't planning on hacking the body. just a little lift, gears and tires.

I use to have a 83 toy . It could hold my stuff and still have space.
The TJ is limited in space. Especially with the back seat in.
I would like to extend the wheel base. But that will have to wait. for next year. I tow a trailer and it is alright. I would rather have a rig that could hold my two kids and all the camping, recovery gear.
I have been thinking about a cj6, cj8 or c101 and even a waggy.

hmmm... yeah, guess i don't know anything cause i'm a newbiewww.4xvideo.com (http://www.4xvideo.com)

course, there isn't too much left of it, but its still an 8

i don't really believe in rare or classic. i believe in molding things to what you want, need, or just what they should be. just cause you have a "rare" 4 popper 8 doesn't mean it should stay one. do whatever the hell you want with it. they are just cars.

aaron,

Is that yours, or did you just film it?

I've got a few questions about how the body holds up when it was shaved so close to the door edge... though I'm sure any of that was taken away by some severe rocker guards.

That's a pretty sick 8.
