I hope I haven't screwed up here. I took my e-brake drum off and got gear oil coming out. Does the drum actually seal the t/c at this point or did I srew up on my rebuild? Panic  :( :shaking:  :crybaby2:

At least it didn't get on my new brake shoes.

you o.k. that is normal . If you look the filler hole is about 1" higher than the bottom of the seal for drum. Drain it first next time.

Whew! thanks. Duuhh! Should I clean that sh-t out with brake cleaner before replacing the drum? Pretty stinky stuff when you get a chest full of it...yak! sure didn't expect that.

If you use that e-brake then do try to clean the gear oil out of there...it'll help keep that brake working(not that they work that great to begin with :( )

any pics of that ?
Yup , 90 wt. will give you a nasty headache if you smellin it for a couple hrs.
just put drum back and refill. Check Mudrak's double seal if it leaks oil into drum.
Also , put some silicon on back of washer so oil does not work out the splines.

Oh yah, if you have a bad groove in the drum where the seal rides a speedi sleeve will fix that.
PS I could have made some juvenile comment about you getting a chest full of stinky stuff but I decided against it....wait a minute I think I just contradicted my last statement. :D

I'm usually more careful about that stuff...s'pose I deserve to get razzed on that one! I live surrounded by sons, nephews, brothers and a hubby that never lets anything get by him...except maybe a chest full of gear oil...pew! Funny thing tho, I think I got them all into wheelin' and trucks of different sorts when I started this Cruiser build. It's kinda snowballed.

Definately brake clean the heck outta everything that got gear lube on there. Don't mind Texican, he laughs at me a lot too.

It's good to laugh...keeps things in perspective!

My Cruiser is almost a runner again. I'll try to post pics. Another thing to learn!

Wasn't laughing, that was a giggle........if it's any consolation I installed the 4wd sleeve backwards in an Orion today and had to pull the output nose to flop it over..........they don't worky so good bassackwards.........

Fantastic 2F engine compartment! Gutsy block color choice. Yours makes Landcruiserjunky's engine compartment look pedestrian.:D

That engine is CLEAN!. Got me kind of curious what color my engine is under all the grease and mud.

One of the percs of being a chick builder...no one is going to laugh too hard at my color choices! I was after old Harley colors...the od green and dark maroon with gold trim. Missed the mark as I couldn't find proper engine paint colors. This thing is gonna STINK!!! Only for a while tho...thanks for the compliments!

I thought it was an extremely clean job , nice work . If it runs like it looks you are golden. I would hate to see your house , prolly a clean freak.

It is a good idea to clean the splines and put some silicone on the splines so gear oil will not seep past the splines.

Actually I like brown carpet and greens and browns most everyplace else...I live in the country and everything kinda blends in that way! House is usually pretty cluttered, shop is clean! :flipoff2:

Seriously now, will brake cleaner ruin the seal? I s'pose just keep it out of there and wipe splines so silicone sticks? These seem to be the kinds of little details that can be a real pita later if not done right. Thanks for the help!

spray brake cleaner on a rag and wipe the splines.
