I have a 79 Jimmy, debating putting 52's up front, 56's on rear with a shackle flip. The axles are 14B rear, 4.10 welded, 10B front 4.10 welded(i know i need a 60). Running 36x14.5 TSL's. Main question is how streetable will this rig still be? It is temporarily a DD and a toy, will be more of a toy later but i need to keep it streetable. By streetable i mean some 20-40mph stuff, and maybe 10-15 miles on the highway at 55 or 60 or so. I have head that it will be way to scary, and have also heard that it will handle nice, just lookignf or input before i make a mistake here.

I dont see why it wouldnt be streetable. My rig is an S10, but its sitting on a fullwidth D44, 52" springs up front, FF D60 rear with 56" springs... 35" tires, tires arent balanced at all and still no vibes up to 60 mph. Im welded front and rear too, of course in the front I have lockouts though. This truck handles better now than it did with IFS.

ive got the same setup in a LW truck . 52's were the best cheap mod ive made. im running 38.5 Hawgs with no balance and it shake pretty good at 60 but I still consider it "streetable" of course this is coming from a guy who would love to have a comp buggy for a DD!!!!!! I think it'll be all good as long as you get your 52"s square.

I have just heard that its too soft, and gets very squirrely when you turn. Are you guys runnign any type of swaybar with the front 52's? Thanks

absolutely no handling probs with the 52/56 on my 78 jimmy, great mod.... One question, what are you doing for steering? The stock stuff will suck even more with the axle moved forward...

edit... No, don't need a swaybar.

will be going crossover at the start and then hydro assist in the coming months

brace that frame when you do crossover
the handling won't be a problem as long as your caster is correct so it doesn't look for the ditch with every bump
if you drive it and it body rolls on the corner, either slow down or put a swar bar with a disconnect on it.
shouldn't be a problem and don't hesitate, DO IT :flipoff2:

I'm thinking about swapping in 52's in place of my 6" lift springs I currently have. I heard this 52" spring swap gives you about 4" of lift if the springs are not saggy. My question is (without searching here or CK5), give me some ideas on what you did with your front spring hanger to install the 52's. I have 1" longer than stock shackles. List your shackle lengths if you are non stock.

I already have 56" springs flipped backwards on my rig to move the housing back 4". I plan to install an anti-wrap bar.

just make your own, 1" down and 3-4" forward from factory, after all, you are putting a cab on a frame it wasn't meant to be on :flipoff2: Got to be some fab skills involved there
(hijack)Sorry I am not more help than that, just got to flip you some shit so you get the fawk busy
the other 10's are going to disney at the end of march, get off your ass :flipoff2: (hijack off)

most setups i have seen on front keep the shackel moutn in the same spot, and move the dtock fronmt hanger from the rear of the body mount to the frotn of the body mount to accomadate the 52's. I have also seen a few people move the shackel mount forward in the frame to alllow a better shackle angle. Another idea i was dabating was doing dual shocks on each side at front, wont affect the flex in any way, but should help stiffen it justa little to keep it from being too bouncy.

search for KidJethro's post on it. he tried like 4 different length shackles. As far as driveshafts, a long-slip from where ever would be a must. you'll definitely get more body roll, but it wont be any different than i get from my yota with rears up front.

i went with a square front shaft....the 52s pulled my stock length slip yoke out when it drooped....

So you getting the 52s out of the back of a stock chevy but where are you getting the 56s from? wouldnt it be better to put 63s in the rear?

56s also come from chevys...all 3/4 and 1 tons have the 56s....just remove leafs till the rate is right....some late 80s 1/2 ton burbs had them as well....

I heard that after awhile the 52's become softer/weaker because their not meant to support the engine, is this true?
