: AZ Rockcrawl Canceled
Azrckcrawler 02-13-2002, 03:17 PM Just heard the event planned for March 2nd and 3rd was canceled. In typical Sandee Mcullen fashion she blamed the local rockrawlers in part for the failure
Here's a quote:
Boy, the grapevine is FAST............... yes, the event as a "competition" has been cancelled due to BLM mucking around getting the permit approved and putting "stipulations" in place that were above the line etc etc. Part of the reason was we did not receive the support from our local rock crawlers to make this event a spectacular event.
JackA 02-13-2002, 06:25 PM So where are we wheeling again?:D
Gotta do some testing.
Azrckcrawler 02-13-2002, 07:00 PM Out past the White Tanks. I'll setup a time and date when we get closer, we'll most likely meet at the 66 on Jackrabbit and then caravan out to the drop zone.

I got an e-mail this morning that said the White Tank Trails are "closed". I'll send you a copy of the e-mail.
JackA 02-14-2002, 07:37 AM I would like to see this letter. If anything they should keep all the rift raft outta there. So much trash, both the people and garbage.

No, not yet
Azrckcrawler 02-14-2002, 05:28 PM Sorry, e-mail was at home, I was at work. I thought it was on one of my Yahoogroups. Anyways here's what I got:
The mapping information is critical if we want to keep our trails open.
March 2-3 ARCA Rock Crawling Championship series in the Florence Jct./Jamboree trails area.
They still need judges and other assistance.
Go to www.ASA4WDC.org for more information.
April 6 The Show Me Run scheduled for April 6th was canceled because only one representative responded. Apparently, no one will come on their own time and no agencies will approve the travel in their budgets.
May 18-19 The Arizona State Association annual banquet, tentatively in Phoenix, but possibly being moved to higher country, depending upon hotel availability.
See www.ASA4WDC.org for updated information.
Quarterly Meeting in conjunction with ASA Banquet.
Prizes for Jamboree are needed. It's not too early to start panhandling, I mean soliciting.
The State Land Department in conjunction with the Forest Service and BLM are mapping the trails on State and Federal lands and trying to determine if there is enough activity to warrant keeping them open. They have hired an independent contractor who is running the trails on quads and putting them on GPS track logs but there is no guarantee our favorite trails will be mapped. If you have trails you want to see stay opened you need to track it on a GPS, preferably a Garmin GPS, and get it to Elliot Bartlett at ej.bartlett@worldnet.att.net
Trials in the White Tanks have already been closed due to lack of response on trails in the area, even though ASA made them aware of at least one trail out there used by 4-wheelers. Just knowing there is a trail there is apparently not good enough for them, even coming from a 3500 member association. They need to be overwhelmed with volume so let's give it to them. They must figure one trail submitted, one voice. So in addition to submitting your trail to Elliot to submit on behalf of the ASA, please forward it to Tammy Pike at tpike@lnd.state.az.us The more responses we have on a specific trail, the better the chances of keeping it open, supposedly.
For the same reasons, the better we are represented at the various land meetings around the state, the more likely our voice will be heard. Please get to every meeting you can. You don't have to say anything, just show up, preferably in red so that we are identified as the off road community.

Azrckcrawler 02-14-2002, 05:34 PM Now a couple problems I see with this plan. First, why the hell isn't the mapping info on the ASA4WDC website? This info should have been distributed weeks ago (I first heard rumors of this on the Armageddon trip). If someone in the know reads this, send me any bulletins and I'll post it to my site. Anyway that whole organization is looking more and more useless. The complain they don't make money off the state Jamboree with hundreds of rigs in attendance while a week later my club makes enough to donate a lot to charity and run the club for another year from a capped 100 rig event.
Second, of course not many people are going to respond. We don't freely give out directions to everyone, if we did that all the trails would be trashed in no time.
Anyway, best thing we can do is to get everyone to e-mail the guys listed above with the names of the trails you like/want to run. You can use my website for trail names, maybe I'll see if I can compile a list broken up by area.

I see a ton of things wrong with this whole thing.....too many to list on here.
just because you/we run a trail, like those out in the White tanks and some .org like the ASA4WDC thinks they have all the POWER on Earth to to say where we can and can't go.....they are not the only voice for our "rights"....to say "we don't run that trail, so too bad, you loose it"......
what about the rest of the people that have rights to access our "public land"???? like the guy with a valid hunting lic, or the guy that wants to get away from the hussle of the Big City....what ever....??
we're not the only ones with the Rights to Access!!!
so where is Sandy in her duty on the BLM RAC Committee, for those poor slobs? was anything announced for the general public? they have rights too!!
Sorry, I sat in too many of those meetings here in Arizona and in Washington D.C. and seen the groups fight for thier "Exclusive Rights" and get no where!!!!
I lead a group of (your not going to belive this) "protesters" in front of BLM .....to stop Bruce Babbitt and crew from taking over all the land from Black Canyon City North to Cordes Junction, on the West side of I-17 to Crown King, for the Perry Mesa Monument....we Won!....the monument is only on the east side of I-17...know why? Because we had all the user groups involved......not just the "4 wheel drive groups"
don't get me going....the thought of some group thinking they are better than any other group......is nuts, and will get you locked out......she better get everyone involved fast.....not just a few people.....I don't have time to lead.....but I will help
your right Chris....it shouldn't be about money! it's our rights!

Dave, from what I can see the ASA4WDC isn't the one saying the trails are closed. It's the State Land Department in conjunction with the Forest Service and BLM who are mapping the trails and claim there is not enough interest in the Tanks to keep the trails open. My beef is our own organization didn't give us any heads up or warning of this whole mapping thing. That's a good point on the other land users. These agencies should be forced to post a large sign at the main entrances to these areas, several months in advance of any decisions so all users have ample time to respond.
Azrckcrawler 02-15-2002, 06:44 AM I posted a page with a link to a text file that contains all the trails I know about here. (http://www.azrockcrawler.com/_images/landuse/landuse.html)
Please pass that link on to anyone you know who may use the areas in question. All of you out of state guys can help by mentioning you would like to travel to Arizona to vacation and drive the trails.
