: Listing Disco

My 98 Disco has a list to the right side. Measured from the top of the wheel arch to ground the right side is appx. ¾” to 1” lower than the left side. There are no problems with the handling on or off the road. A quick visuals inspecting did not see anything apparently wrong and there is nothing overly heavy inside the truck.
My guess is a spring has gone soft, anyone have other suggestions? Before I noticed this I had ordered a new set of shocks front and rear. Now I’m thinking I should bite the bullet and order springs as well.

Man that is wrong... but funny.
nothing wrong with the upper and lower spring perches? Pull the front springs since you are going after the front shocks anyway and just stand them next to each other. That is a BIG difference though, no break in the springs near the top or bottom? How fast did this happen, overnight or just continuously until you noticed it?

Mine too, only slightly.
Cheapest fix is to sit in the driver's seat.

They all lean unless you get anal and start shimming...then you spend time every few weeks chasing spring spacers around your truck and sticking thjem in and pulling them out...it's the fate of many a coil sprung rig.

Hello Gents

That's a commom problem on Land Rovers, this is due to the transfer box, diffs (front and rear) and Props being set to Right hand side of the vehicle.... :flipoff2:

Like Bertha was suggesting the only solution is starting to add shimms underneath the springs......

" diffs (front and rear) "

Really?

how does that work being they are BELOW the springs.

Damn...beat me to it.

Actually, the diffs are so MASSIVE that they create their own gravity. Sucks the right side of the truck down don'cha-know. :shaking:

My first thought was similar, but then maybe he is correct.

If it is correct it wont be anything to do with the weight of the diffs or drive shafts (any way the motor and gearbox is offset to the left).

Think about the torque reaction and the right hand springs being close to the diffs and drive shafts.

Problem solved, my wife lost weight. No... that's not right it was a combination of week springs and a badly bent rear sway bar mount. Bent the sway bar mount back into place. Replaced the springs with OME HD front and rear. Also a full set of ProComp 9000 shocks and spring retainers. Every thing back to even keel with a 2"+ body lift and more articulation as a bonus.

I think the spring perches are the culprit. My right rear spring perch is mounted an inch higher than the left. The original idea (I think) was to make the vehicle level on a heavily cambered road. Remember the brits drive on the left.
My vehicle was originally LHD, the RH rear spring was a full two inches longer than the LH rear spring. With that setup the vehicle lists an inch to the left.

I packed up the RHR spring mount, now I think there's a height offset in the front too.

When I got my OME springs, the left front was about 12mm taller then the right. The left rear was 14mm taller then the right. The truck sat level untill the chop top/bob job. Now the left rear is noticably higher then the rest of the truck. I had to put 2'' spacers in the front to get it back to level.Still off a bit. :shaking:
