: Carb diagnosis...

So my Cruiser officially hates me the last couple of days... (2F, with Aisin carb, 76' era)

Runs great 99.5% of the time...

But then all of a sudden, it will fall flat on its face... runs super rich, idles rough, and refuses to gain any RPM's especially when it has any load present.

Now heres the part that sucks, I am not a carb guy (I send them all out) but I have been into a few of them over the years. But, as soon as I get to some place to pull over and check it out... By they time I get out of the vehicle, pop the hood and start to mess with the carb. The problem goes away, it will run great for a couple of days... in fact it hasn't done it for several days (havn't driven it alot)...

Any quick ideas before I tug the carb off and send it to my carb guy?

Anyone think that it could be a spark issue?
(New plugs, cords, FJ60 ignitor/coil/dizzy)

Thanks in advance... :D

PS... My truck hates me this week!

My guess would be you have some crap in your fuel bowl. Take off the top and look.

Please, send him my love, then send it again, and again, and again. I perfer my love sent with some force in back of it :mad3: :mad3: :mad3:

Sounds like you have random crap in the bowl or, slight possibility, wierdness in the pump. Pull the top and see what ya got. It might be a small block in the jet but now I am talking out of my ass :flipoff2: PM Mark for more info.

Beat ya to it David. Kurt and I talked about this a few weeks back when the problem started. AT the time, the symptoms were a little more vague. Now I have a hunch.

Kurt, get a vacuum guage and hook it up so you can see it while you're driving. Next time it happens, see if the vacuum just drops on a steady reading, or whether the needle does a rapid up and down flicker.

And this will tell you what?

Will do, but I'm afraid it won't do it just because I have the gauge hooked up... It has only done this twice (for a couple minutes each time) and then suddenly back to normal...

What are you theorizing?

PS, thanks for all the help everyone :D

That is the same question I was asking above. I can see where a sticking valve would cause the vac issue but I doubt this is your issue on such rare occassions. It might be worthwhile to hook up the gauge and drive with it while and see if it tells you anything. I would pull apart the top of the carb first.
