I have a '95 4.0 rangie, my steering wheel wobbles about an inch either way, giving me a good bit of wander, worse when I'm tired. I've checked all the bushings/balljoints, and come down to the box itself. With a friend rocking the wheel, I can see the input shaft moving, but the pitman arm is rock solid-no movement at all.

the shop manual has a cool college textbook discription of how the valving/fluid flow and recirculating balls work, but not how to re-build the damn thing. my seals arn't leaking but I'll replace them just because i have it apart. anyone know how to rebuild this beast, or any ideas on where I can find directions?

before you ask, yes, I tried the adjustment on top but that just made the steering stiff, and the wander worse.....

I talked to several Rover people about this, the consensus was ti was more trouble than it was worth, to just buy a refurb. I have not tried yet, so I am curious to see what people here say. The one person I know who did it said he would not do it again.
