: T-case Output Shaft Removal?

Any tricks to removing the output shaft from the t-case. Do you just wedge a 2x4 against the low range gear, and drive the shaft out the front - high range gear and all? Seems like there's got to be, shall we say a more graceful method. :flipoff2:

Also, is the output shaft the same for both the 3-speed case and the 4-speed case. The one in my 3-speed donor case had a fragged needle bearing - no apparent damage to the shafts, but it'd be nice to know the other will work.

Thanks.

With the front cone out just drive the two piece shafts out the front....sometimes the rear bearing grips a little so protect the threads and pop the shaft.....and I believe that both are the same depending on the vehicle as mine is a 74 and that was the transition year, I could be off....

You can just pound on it gently to get the shaft and bearing out. It is a good idea to support the lo gear with some wooden blocks. Use a brass or aluminum drift on the rear end of the output shaft so that you don't booger up the threads.

The front spline on the output shaft is coarse on 3 speeds and fine on 4 speeds. They interchange as long as you swap the clutch sleeve and the front output shaft. The rear part of the shaft is the same.

Thanks. I wanted to use the front nose cone and output shaft from the 4-speed. Just need the gears out of this case.
