OK, tried this in chit chat (what was I thinking). It's time to set up the new truck to tow my heep. Called all the trailer places in the phone book here to get a hitch and tranny cooler, and U-HAUL beat the closest price by $175:eek: . I know you get what you pay for, and if it sounds too good to be true etc, etc, but is this actually decent stuff? Pay the extra money or grab the deal and run? Hell, u-haul is willing to install a tranny cooler for half the price the local dodge dealer wants just for the cooler, seems kinda lowball to me, is it crap?

U-haul is a huge tax shelter for it's holding co. It rarely makes any money.

There hitches are made by Draw-tight and are top quality. I would not let them install the cooler. There mechanics are not the sharpest tools in the shed. Just DIY and get the cooler thru Summit.

The hitch is 6 bolts. Buy the hitch from them, put it on your self. All you need is a 3/4" socket and a torque wrench that runs up to 90 ft/lbs. The tranny cooler is the fun part. If you get one with a fan on it, you get to play with wiring too!

I wouldn't let a U-Haul guy touch my truck, even if it is just to put on a hitch. Every single time I deal with U-Haul I think to myself, what a bunch of dumb@sses. Then a few moments later, I think *I* am such a dumb@ss for coming back to this place. But hey, like you said, they have good prices and I am cheap :rolleyes:

I wish I had time to do the install myself. Work wont let me stay in town long enough to work on my heep let alone the truck. Had to put in for a week of leave in march just to get the heep ready for a trail ride. I've had an OX locker sitting under my desk for almost 6 months now waiting on time to install it. Wanted to just drop the truck off on the way to the airport and have someone pick it up when it was done so I'd have it when I got back, but if u-haul isn't to be trusted with the work, guess I'll have to pony up for the more expensive option. Not like its a hard install, but damn, gots no time. Any other options out there?

You can literally do the hitch yourself in 10 minutes. The longest it took me to do one was 30 minutes, and that was on a Dodge van that had to have the bumper brackets relocated. What kind of truck do you have? And is there any trailer wiring already on it?
