To convert a ECM from an automatic version to a Manual version, is it as simple as changing the chip inside the ECM? Or does it require swapping out the entire ECM?
FWIW, going from 88 Camaro with auto to 88 Camaro with manual 5.0L TBI :p
TIA,
John

Harry,
Are you using a VSS?
And are you using the stock harness? or did you buy one?
Damn, I wish I climbed up onto your bigass tires and looked into the engine compartment.

What is a VSS???? I am using the whole harness from the caprice. And I mean the whole thing..I did this because my rig was 24 volt and I needed to convert anyhow.

LOL...I'll take that as a no.
A VSS is the Vehicle Speed Sensor, which, depending on year, is integrated into the dash speedo, or the speedo gear.
Some people who don't use them have some drivability issues, particularly when slowing to an idle. Others don't seem to have an issue without one. I'm trying to decide if it'll be worth the cost (particularly because I need to decide whether I'll get the harness set up for one or not).

Depending upon the VSS you buy, it may have the "spade" for integrating it into the ECM connector. I believe the one I bought for my Cruiser had the spade.

Charly, I remember now. Mine did not have this as it had a speedo cable. The other Kaiser did as we took the wiring from an 88 chevy PU. Both vehicles ran fine. We didn't hook up the other either.....Excuse me if I am not up to speed on my TBI jargin. Its been a couple of years now since my conversion.
