Whaddy know.. finally a weekend I didn't go wheelin... :flipoff2:

Which was good, because I finally finished drilling out the broken hub bolts on the trail rig, and got it back together.. still have to tear down the passenger side and fix it, too.. but it's at least back on 4 tires again.

Spent a little time on the wife's Toyota since we bumped a deer Friday night.. arghh..

..but mostly got the racer ready for this coming weekend.

I've had problems with the steering clearing the spring and frame ever since I did the RS.. so I finally got serious about fixing it.

I then plated the hole..

All better, aside from the slightly bent tie-rod that won't let me get quite to full lock to the right. I need to dig up the receipt and go warranty it.. AGAIN.. :D

Still have a little work to do on my in-car camera mount.. but the cage work is done.

http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/PlainGallery/2005DevilCageUpgrades105/dcp_0012.sized.jpg

Gotta relocate the amber light to the center of the cage (much better spot for it).

Rewired a bunch of stuff, and now have an actual KEY to start it with (no more push button and toggles. :( )

Installed some *bling* a week or so ago..

http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/PlainGallery/2005DevilCageUpgrades105/dcp_0003.sized.jpg

Then "fixed" it.. since after installing I suspected it wasn't going to clear the big fat Woody..

While I was wrenching on stuff, I borrowed my friend's grooving iron again, and added some life to the poor Mickeys..

Even started the Scout up and drove it back and forth a foot in the shop last night while filling the transmission n' such.

Just a few things to tidy up and another fluid check, and I'll be making hot-laps in my field tomorrow night. :D

Any bets on how long before the cops show up? :D

I replaced the cap dial on the warn hubs. Now I have 4wd again, without having to tear down the hub to engage... ;)

Got lazy and had a shop replace the shift lever seal... again..

Removed my old electric fuel pump, and installed a new facet one.. much quieter. plus, I can get rid of the fuel pressure regulator, when I get around to it. The old pump was too high of pressure.

Removed the tank selector valve on the white pickup. Drove it around some, but didn't have it under load, so I couldn't tell if it made a difference. The plan is to put the electric fuel pump on the white pickup, if I continue to have a fuel starvation issue. What fun is it to have a 392, if you can't keep it redlined while hauling a load?

Today, the SSII went into the shop for new exhaust. 2 1/4 inch pipe, *twister* mufflers (some in store brand they make), dumping out in front of the rear tires.

It sounds... throatier... and it doesn't rattle, and... imagine that, no more exhaust smell inside the truck...

It is louder than the turbo mufflers I had on there before... sounds more like a V-8 now. I like it...

The turbo mufflers will go on the white pickup. Both mufflers on that are rusted out from its long rest in the middle of the forest....

I see that exahust outlet smashed soon... very soon...... if e ever go wheeling.

BAD spot IMO, but I already told you that.

did you look at those mufflers before they put them on?? They look like Glass-Packs. If they are, they are not spark-arresters, and if they aren't spark-arresters, no wheeling in Naches (if a Ranger looks at them)

:( looks like they routed them OK though... I still would have gone out back like mine, but we'll see.

Closest thing I got to IH related this weekend was pulled the 2300 off the race truck to put it back on the t-lette, and swap another 2300 I picked up that has a manual choke. But never got around to finishing it. So the race truck is carb less (need choke cable, gasket and a kick-down lever from some parts carbs), and the t-lette's carb is sitting on the work bench.

God I suck. I've entered red-neck stause again. I'm down to only one "running" IH... :flipoff2:

Tore my D44 apart and installed my HighSteer kit from damian. Very good quality stuff. Very pleased. no broken parts/tools and only one smashed finger.

Argh.

Took it for a spin tonight.. whaddya know, I didn't just bash in the deep part of the pan for clearance, but I also clearanced the gasket lip, too.. drip... drip... drip..

So I drained it, beat the sh*t out of it with a hammer until it resembled something flat n' straight, then went for the RightStuff and a new gasket..

Of course, I'm out of ATF now, so no testing until tomorrow or the next day.

Still not certain I have all 3 gears in the transmission (or the shfiter adjusted just right), but I was trying not to upset the neighbors too much - I put mufflers on - and it was dark outside, and no headlights.. the flashlight helped, but... :D

They are not glass packs. Don't sound like glass packs, either.

You may very well be right, that I will squash them, but that is what the hacksaw is for.. ;)

My *theory* is that they exit close enough to the tire, that it would be difficult to get anything that high, that close to the tire... they are really tucked into the corner there.. but we will see.

If I smash them, I will move them..

But, that finishes up my current projects.. no *significant* fluid leaks, no more rattle, no more exhaust fumes in the cab - I didn't realize how much was getting in there until I drove without the fumes... hubs work... It's actually fun to drive again... I am thinking if it stays this warm, I will throw the bikini back on it... ;)

I wondered about the seal on that after you beat it up...

I was also a little concerned about the valve body There isn't *that* much room between the side of hte pan and the valve body, and it was hard to tell how much you clearanced it...

You're going to have a hell of a tough time convicing anybody that they are spark arresting. I don't understand why anyone would put a muffler like that on a wheeling rig in this state. To get away with running those mufflers on the dry side of the state you would have to put on some Supertrapps.

They look almost exactly like the ones I ran last year...?

You are probably right though, you are more familiar with the Eastside than I am... and it looks like it will be a dry year..

But, I will run it up to the USFS and have them check them. If they pass, great, if they don't, I will move on to step 2...

I realize that, and if we had run into any rangers I think your trip would have been short. Some of these Supertrapp tips would remove any doubt about your exhaust http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=partdetail.asp&part=SUP%2D444%2D2003&N=120+4294923429+4294922711+301861

And if they don't pass, then I will have a beef with the muffler shop, because I specifically asked, and they assured me they would pass.

Thanks Ben. That is the *step 2* I was talking about.. :)

I'll make sure I resolve the issue one way or another, before I head East...

My exhaust still dumps in the stock location. My cab exhaust was terrible. I sealed up the rear gate and the rear snaps around the soft top with some generic foam rubber weatherstripping and it is alot better. I too was surprised how bad it was until I fixed it.

Built this this HD 60 diff cover for my buddy. Not too bad for a rush job. Next one will be little more refined.

looks good but if your hulling a load on the highway on a dam hot summers day the extra heat from the exahust might be the straw the brakes the camels back on that rear tire. :nuke:

I seen (in the old shop) that happend to a chev truck hulling traler threw the canion and had a similer exhaust setup :nuke: (and the tires wernt a year old)
