I searched and didnt come up with an answer..

so.. Is the Radiator overfill required ???
My front clip is removed from my Toyota 22RE and it would be easier if i didnt need the overfill. Is this a mandatory item ? Considering i dont want to overheat.

No. Old cars never came with them. However, they also overheat a lot.

The overheating would depend on your radiator, fans, and all that stuff...not neccessarily having an overfill tank or not.

you don't nescessarily need one, but if you leave it out you'll have to add coolant to the system periodically.
the catch can has the hose connected at the bottom for a reason, so as the system cools down the radiator can suck the coolant back in. if there is no can, the over flow hits the ground and is lost.
the catch can could be made smaller though............Karl

Good answer. The purge tank 'pumps' the air out of the cooling system because the heating and cooling cycles repeat the process. The air goes eventually to the highest point, the top of the radiator generally. Then it gets pushed out when hot, then the system sucks coolant in from the tank when it cools. Repeat over'n over, and you can see the advantage. I usta drive odd-ball vehicles, like a Renault Dauphine and a 2-stroke Saab 96. It was a pain in the butt to purge the air from those systems. You hadda do it in the right sequence or it wouldn't work and the engine would over-heat. Think the highest point in the Saab system was the heater core. It had a purge valve on top.

Sweet ! Thanks for the responses.

Now i know..

I will probably eventually put one on. Since i know its not absolutely necessary, then i wont worry about it for a little bit. Plus i have a V6 Rad. for my 4cyl. sure that helps too.
