i want to replace my i6 with a v8. the jeep is an 83 cj7 and located in ca. what do i have to do to get it to pass smog? from what i understand, all i need to do is make sure that the new engine is newer than 83 and make sure to put all the smog stuff on for that engine. is there anywhere that the regulations can be found on the internet.
thanks,
Tyler trw@saber.net

The engine has to be the same year or newer as the vehicle with all the smog stuff in place. The engine also has to be from a similarly sized vehicle. So no 8.1L vortec big blocks for you ;)

check out www.smogcheck.ca.gov

You already have the right info. Same year or newer with everything intact from the donor vehicle. And you should have no problems

I've been wondering this myself, as I have a couple of vehicles that could use some small block power but aren't exepmt yet. I have searhed throughout DMV's site, but can't find anything pertaining to engine swaps
