about a year ago i purchased a 4:1 kit for my 300...unfortunately i have a 20...save the flame

should i a)try to find a 300, or b)cut my losses and get what i can for the gears and buy the proper gears for the 20 at about $300 more than i paid for the 300 gears?

since the 300 is a hard find, i would think finding a buyer for the gears would be a hard sell

the upside to going with the 20 gears is that i have a 20 already out of the truck...

if anyone has leads on a 300 let me know...

Hmmm.... I have a 300, but I already have the 4:1 gears. If you're not in a huge hurry, you might look around and see if you could find a Scout 300. If you can't then try to sell the gears and go the 20 route. I assume you're talking about a Scout 300.... did you specifically order Scout 300 4:1 gears? They are different than the Jeep 300 4:1 gears.

i ordered the scout gears. according to the manufacturer, yes they are different...i think the scout 300 is the only 300 that will work with my TF727...maybe the best bet is for me to try and find a "80 scout with the 300 thats in disrepair locally...

Or just rebuild your 727 with a Jeep/Dodge output.

I thought about this too, but as stated by Mech, the Jeep and Scout 300 sets are different. If he could trade straight up for a Jeep 300 set then go for it!

If he is trying to figure out how to use his Scout 300 gear, then how is adapting to a Jeep 300 helping him? I mean sure it is an option, but he is still stuck with a set of Scout 300 gears.

Scout 300 ~$500

Jeep 300 $100-150.00
Jeep/Dodge 727 $50-100.00

Spending money on a texas patteren T/C is stupid.

Being able to move up up doublers and or an Atlas pricless.

If your set on the lower gearing, find a 300.

You can only get 3.1 to 1s for D20s. ;)

I was hoping you bought a D18 3.1 kit & had to get rid of it. :p

The only difference between the Scout 300 gears and the Jeep 300 gears are the input. And the 727 input is rare at that.

So as further options:

Call the supplier/manufacture and ask if they will swap the Scout specific parts for the (cheaper) jeep stuff, or kit for kit. They might go for it as the Scout kit if more $$ than the Jeep kit.

Place a "trade" add. Look for someone that is needing D300 gears for a 727 and make them a deal that if they buy the jeep kit, you'll trade them strait across for the Scout kit. You take a little loss, but get maximum value for your incorrect gear set, and the other person gets a good deal.

Those options of course are if you wanted to swap to the Jeep D300.

think outside the box guys.
