: Broken brakes?

The idiot light indicates a brake problem, or an idiot problem. I have a 90 k1500 with disc on the front and drum on the back. I checked all the lines, and pulled all four wheels, and everything looks great. I did top off the master cylinder as it was about a 1/4 inch below full. The pedal travel is fine. The light just suddenly came on the other day. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be? This one's got me stumped.

does it have RWAL brakes?

I would bet it does.you can check for codes. if its not acting strange, or you were spinning your tires then quickly stopping it would throw a false code 5 or 6. if you think its ok and just want the light out then un hook the battery and let it clear for 15 minutes to remove codes.
when you hook it back up the light should be gone.
if its a mechanical switch the light will still be on, in that case the main system or parking brake could have problem.

did you bump the parking brake and leave it on a little?

My brother in law had a problem with his brake light on all the time due to the stars for his drum brakes not being adjusted properly, you can do it with a screw driver, may be a more permanent solution than keeping the parking brake down a tad, not that there is anything wrong with that :-)
