I need to get my 72 Bronco to pass emissions testing in Colorado. The numbers part of it shouldn't be a problem. I'm just wondering if any of you know what equipment was standard on them in 72. Cats? O2 sensors? etc. I have a 5.0 sefi in it and exaust without cats so i'm just wondering what i need to throw on it to get it to pass.

Thanks,
Steve

If you have an injected motor in the truck, I would assume that the laws are similar to CA, and say that the smog equipment needs to match the engine.....ie: cats, EVAP, EGR, O2 sensors, etc.

But Co might be differant.

If thats true, then all you should need is a thermal air cleaner, a PCV system, and possibly EGR.

light trucks lagged behind cars by a year or so with the smog rules.

I had a 72 ford *car*, CA emissions. It had a PCV and oil breather back to the air cleaner, closed evap fuel with a charcoal canister, temp limited spark advance -- no vacuum advance until it got warm, a thermo-pipe to the air cleaner to preheat the air until it gets warm.

I don't think 72 had EGR, but I'll bet you need it anyway to keep the EFI happy. Definitely no Cat until 78CA or 79 Federal models.

you should be able to goto the library and find the original equip on microfilm, but some of it won't apply with the EFI.

you mean to tell me that for once calif smog laws are easier than somewhere else?

in cali a 72 is exempt
