Looks more like prison rape to me.
I'd say the rear is low on oil but I don't think it finished yet.

call me a mall poser but i think the clear gearz cover is kinda pimp :smokin:

looks like the rear axle is way off centered but that may just be the angle of the pic. he does plan on a cage to strengthen teh sheetmetal "frame" right?

Yep with chromo's and Bobby longs joints I believe.

Oh yea, definatly. It has already been plated some and will be plated more. Use to have an exo but he cut it off to dovetail it and chop the top.

Umm...I have no idea what yall are talking about. I have seen the first hand abuse one of the covers can take. There was an old one laying around the shop in Boone and it has been run over by so many trucks, beat on by so many hammers, and just flat out abused and hasnt crumpled yet. And when does the material make it hard for the cover to seal? You can see by the pic it hasnt leaked yet.

Judd, whats up man? We got to head back out to Tellico sometime. I know Ben will want to take his cherokee out as soon as it get rolling again and my bro wants to see how the full-widths like tellico.

Hacking unibodies is always fun. Mine was squirrely as shit when I did this:
http://www.mallcrawlin.com/wheelinpics/choptop/choptop%20016.jpg

Then as a band-aid I created this uber-ghetto contraption to stabilize it until I finish up the rear end (gonna dove or bob, not sure yet) just so I could actually drive and wheel it. Stiffened it up pretty good.

I've seen some pics of that XJ before, definitely a nice rig. A properly built cage should be able to bring the unibody back to the needed strength though.

Are his rear leaves inboarded? They look like they're alot closer to the pumpkin than usual

If your refering to the person who bought his XJ from lincoln, no. Ben is the person that owns this cherokee and works at High Country.

87JeepWrangler, it should hold up just fine. The one at the shop in boone that was laying around has had numerouse vehicles driven over it and many a hammer hit. Everyone has done there worst and it seems to be hold up.

baseballneal86, That is the other thing they are doing is inboarding the rear springs. Should definatly be interesting.

02-08-2005, 03:49 PM
yeah those pics were in Boone, Sam, thanks for posting those pics for me. The springs were moved to under and to the inside of the "frame rail" The clear cover we have at the shop that we beat the living piss out of every day has held up for a year and a half and has just scratched, so i think it will hold up and it seals up just fine. If you have any other questions ask and I will do my best to respond as soon as i can.

How could you chop up a luxury SUV like a grand cherokee? wow. I can't believe your parents ever let you do that. you must be a redneck!

Hey Chevota,
I know I'm a "newbie" becuase I just joined the site but can you give me some specs on that leaf spring convo on your rokee i would like to know how hard that is and/or if you think its worth it. Great sawzall job by the way it looks great

Well Ben (1992xj) can tell you more about it because its his rig but i believe he is just running 44044's with the shackle up front. Seems to flex well and ride pretty well but you just have to be carefull of bending leafs but everything has its week points. IMO if you have the skills and money to do coils or leafs then do the coils but the leafs are alot more simple and simple is always a good thing. It all comes down to personal preference. I believe Ben and the guys built all the brackets custom for his rig so no kit or anything as of yet.

i love my AW4....i have the AX-15 5 speed manual in my DD XJ, but my trail rig has the auto in it......with a good tranny cooler and a sturdy skid they will last as long as the 4.0 (which is practically forever)
