: Fuel Pressure Regulator?

This on a '95 Disco 1 with an RPi 4.6 & Tornado chip:

My truck is idling rough (surging and falling) and generally runs a bit rough after it warms up and pings on hard acceleration. Mechanic says fuel regulator is not making the spec 48 psi.

Should I go with the stock Lucas unit or is there an aftermarket fuel regulator that would work better?

Thanks,

Norm

48 psi? I've never seen a Rover run such high fuel pressure. Fuel pressures usually run aroundd 35 with heavy fluctuation.

I'd start looking at things like temp sensors, timing and vacuum leaks.

The timing should be good because I just had a new timing gear set put in. Where would the temp sensors be located?

I am noticing a high pitched whistling sound from the engine bay while I'm driving, especially when I take my foot off the gas. Where would be a likely source for a vacuum leak?

Thanks,

Norm

No, not the cam timing, but the ignition timing. The pinging on acceleration indicates the timing is too advanced. On a '95 engine setup, the fuel temp sender is on the fuel rail near the intake plenum inlet. Coolant temp sensor is vertically oriented in the intake manifold with a connector very much like the injectors.

Vacuum leaks can occur just about anywhere. Look for any place where there is a mating surface related to the air intake. Also check the hoses from the valve covers to the intake, along with the hose to the fuel pressure regulator.
