: k10 10bolt question
cwend 02-08-2005, 02:38 PM i hope this hasnt been covered. i got a 10bolt front from a late 70s k10 blazer that i mistakenly thought was a d44 to swap into a jeep. unfortunately, i took it apart before i measured it. i think the wms should be 67.5 from what ive bben able to find. and the same carrier for the 3.07 in it will work for 4.56s? does that sound right? im trying to decide if i wanna go ahead with it or dump it and find a 44 instead. not many jeep guys seem to use 10bolts, so i was wanting to verify my info first. thanks.
thundr undrgrond 02-08-2005, 05:25 PM the wms on the 10 bolt is the same as the chevy 44, everything from the knuckles out is interchangeable, as for the carrier split, im not 100% on this, but i think its around 3.73. the carrier from the 3.07 should be different... as ai said, im not certain, i dont do much with the small rears
Chevyboy51 02-08-2005, 06:30 PM belive it or not the carrier is the same from 2.73 to 5.57I have personally takin a 3.07 and put in 4.10s
4x4realm 02-08-2005, 10:09 PM That wouldn't be the right carrier for standard 4.56 gears but someone makes a thick 4.56 gears that would work.

As far as 10b vs. 44 I would think you would have to narrow it no matter what so you may as well stick with what you got....

if you don't know don't answer there is only two carriers for a 8.5 10 bolt 2.56 and down and 2.73 and up if you don't belive me look here http://www.ringpinion.com/content/technicalhelp/default.asp?pid=129
cwend 02-09-2005, 07:14 AM i think i may end up staying with the 10bolt i have then. the shaft sizes are about the same as a 44. 28 vs 30 spline. i run 36s and will be putting a lockright in, but i dont wheel real hard. the benefit to cutting a 44 down 4" on the long side was to be able to use junkyard waggy shafts(they are 4" shorter than a chev) but i can always find a couple 10bolt shafts and have em cut for spares. its not that expensive i suppose. but then again, cant go lower than 5.13 with 10bolt.
CumminsZuk 02-09-2005, 11:44 AM i have a dana 44 for cheap i will sell you if you want it let me know
J94_4runner 02-10-2005, 01:31 PM I put a D44 upfront of my 4runner. I had custom chromoly shafts made for it b/c the "goose neck" defect of stock axle shafts scared me. I currently run 35" MTR's and wanna upgrade to a 36"-38" Super swamper tire. If you're using a 10 bolt in the rear, get a "FULL FLOAT" kit for it. some shop in MA makes them. $800.

why would you put 800 in a 10 bolt you can get a 14 for like 100 bucks shave it and not lose too much clearnace
jackedupjimmy 02-10-2005, 05:37 PM hes taliking about a 10 bolt front

Um he said a REAR 10 bolt :flipoff2:
rebelchevy02 02-10-2005, 07:58 PM not to stir any shit, but wouldnt a 10 bolt front be technically full floating anyways? haha sorry just had to say it, so like above said, get a ff 14 bolt and disc it, i did mine, works great. alot cheaper and stronger then a ff 10 bolt, and i believe you can do 6 lug if that was an issue.
bggrnchvy 02-10-2005, 09:08 PM Think before you type. A 10 bolt is a semi floating axle, done.

Sure, a rear 10-bolt is......but show me a semi-floating FRONT 10-bolt and I'll give you a cookie :flipoff2:

I know that but he was clearly talking about rear axles, as he said don't put in a 10FF, just put in a 14FF.
SmashedS10 02-11-2005, 04:21 PM Full-Floating or Semi-Floating the damn point is 10 bolts arent worth polishing a turd and are :rainbow:
