Is anyone running the Garmin StreetPilot Colormap or the StreetPilot III?
I will be purchasing one of the two soon and with it the Metroguide CDrom for the family trips. But I also want trail maps and contours. Is the TOPO CD all that? Is it worth my $90? Is the Outdoor and Recreation CD all that? Really worth the money or just a waste of money.
anyone....anyone?

I have the Garmin GPS V. It comes with city guide and I've bought the topo USA from 4x4now and they both work together fine, at least on the Garmin unit. I will add that it uses the city guide as a default and I need to select for topo to show and it doesn't do both at the same time. Which is fine, if I'm trying to find a pizza joint I don't care if it's up hill or not.
Sorry not direct help on other units but I'd imagine they work relativly similar.

Yeh, that helps. I want the Metroguide CD for the trips....ATMs, resturants, etc.
But I want the TOPO of hunting and trial rides. How is the TOPO CD for showing trails? Are most on there?

Topo map SW shows most common trails like the Rubicon & Fordyce but when it comes to the places like the hammers theres nothing there referencing desert trails with exception to Dry Mead Lake, etc.

that is good to know. Here in the east, more in PA we do a lot of old Mining trails. These show up on USGS Topo Quads, but I am wondering if they show up on the Garmin Topo CD. And to see if anyone has feeling towards the Trails and Recreation CD
I hope I'm wrong here, but if you're used to the 1:24k USGS maps I think you're gonna be disappointed. I don't think the GPS systems are quite there yet, although they should be in another year or two at most. The best I've seen is a guy with a laptop-based system who can load 1:24k sections for a specific trip, but they are memory hogs so he mostly sticks to a 1:200k set which don't show near the detail IMHO that you need for exploring.
Again, this is second hand info and a little dated so hopefully I'm wrong and they've got there already.
