: Got an Auburn LSD and Trac-Lok - worth using?

Last weekend I picked up a matching pair of axles from a '78 Bronco - HP 44 front and a 9" rear. When we were looking in the truck at the bone yard we noticed an "Auburn Gear" sticker on the dash and turning the shafts found that both axles had some type of traction aid in them. I got them complete disc to disc and drum to drum for under $400 for the pair so I figured I couldn't go wrong. Also figured out they had 4.10's in them so the carriers would be good for my project.

Any way, after getting them home I finally pulled the cover off the 44 and found what's been determined to be a Dana Trac-Lok. I haven't cracked the rear open yet but I'm tempted to believe the rear has the Auburn Pro Serries in it.

So, I guess my question is, are either of these decent when it comes to wheelin'? I'm mainly buliding for probably no bigger than 35's for rocks and trails, not much mud. Is it worth getting these setup with gears or should I just hold out and go for more of a locker application?

you should at least put a locker in the rear. the auburn is stronge and all but you really need to be locked in the rear. for the front id say just leave it alone unless you plan on regearing it.

They are good, especially if you drive the truck on the street most of the time. They will get you most places. If you are hardcore on the rocks, get a locker in back. Since you have them I would use them, unless you have $ burning a hole in your pocket.
