im regularly a chevy guy but recently have access to some ford parts off of a 1986 ford 1 ton 2wd dually. what type of rear end is in this truck and how is the dually rear different from the SRW. what has to be done to convert it to SRW?

I would guess its probably a Dana 70. Relatively easy to find.

Is there a fill plug in the rear cover? If so measure the axle tube diameter if its around 3" its a 60, if its bigger its a 70.
If there isn't a fill plug then its a 10.25 (which i like better than the 70 and 60, unles the 70 is a 70U), i wouldn't ask for more than 100 bucks for it myself.

I'd disagree and say the 70 even a 70 HD is better than the 10.25.

seeing how its a dually, i would most likely rule out the option of it being a D60. my vote is for D70 and yes, i think those are a lot better than a sterling. visteon axle = 2nd rate knock off of dana.

Dana 70 is definitely better than a Sterling. It's slightly stronger and has a much better aftermarket.
