: Pics of Rear Bumper antenna mounts??
MudShack 02-15-2002, 07:54 AM I have a Midland CB just waiting to be put into my 4runner. I used to mount the antenna on a modified bed tie down on my Tacoma. But now, the only place I can figure out where to put the antenna on my 86 SAS 4runner is the rear bumper just wide of the tailgate.
Anyone have any pics and/or info on the bumper mounts? And where did you put your CB? I used to keep mine mounted on a shelfit. Now I am thinking.....hmmmm mount the CB right on the dash above the guages. What do you all think?

heee heee hahaha I would destroy that in a heart beat...unless it was on the back of the cruiser....then it may take a trip or two. ;)
ExtremeCJ 02-15-2002, 04:53 PM Don't Mount it off your bumper, you will cut down on your range substanially, you want to have the antenna as high as you can get it on the body so that the body does not act as the recieving antenna. this is what i used on my truck, It was a $4 aluminum mount that was polished but i painted it.

MudShack 02-16-2002, 05:10 AM Yah, I know what you mean. I am having problems figuring where to put it, though. I have a 86 4runner so the options are far and few between. Looks like the only alternative is a....gulp...magnetic roof mounted antenna like the K40. My truck's roof stands about 6'4" and throwing an antenna on top will grab trees and bridges. :(
locrwln 02-16-2002, 05:42 AM Sorry I don't have any pics, but the best way that I've seen on 4runners is a piece of flat stock mounted between the shell and bed top. Take the flat stock (1x4or5 inches) place it on top of the bed just outside of the rubber seal for the top. You will have to twist it slightly to make it level. Point it toward the rear, above the taillight. Most people rivet it onto the truck, leave just enough overhang to mount the antenna and you're good. A three footer works perfect.

Great idea!!! Thanks
I built on onto my rear bumper that I made..I ran a pipe up on the drivers side and installed the ant. onto that...thin stainless whip since I kept busting my fibergalss ones...this works super...I will post a pic when I get back home as Im using just a little web browser that I cant do diddly with...the pipe also works as a lens guard...:D

Don't get a magnetic roof mount! I had one on my Ranger. First tree I went under knocked it off the roof. I spent the rest of the day wheeling with it on my hood. Got the scrathes from the dust to prove it, too. ;) ~Steve

Yeh, that sounds good. Get me pics. I liked the idea someone had above of mounting it on a piece of steel sticking out from between the cap and bed above the drivers side tail light.
How do you like those 4.88's? And how are the manners of the detroit in the rear? Do you have to drive in snow?
Bones 02-18-2002, 05:10 AM Here's (http://4crawler.cruiserpages.com/4x4/CheapTricks/CBantenna.shtml) Roger Browns site. Lots of other info as well for that 'Runner :D

MudShack 02-18-2002, 05:11 AM see...that is what I am talking about! The only concern would be the antenna hitting the cap. But oh well.

It shouldn't hit the top since the top angles towards the front of the truck slightly. I may copy that since I sold my Rockstopmer rear bumper with the mount on it.

I am going to copy that. I may do it this weekend at the same time as I swap my Tractor Trailor Air horns out of my Tacoma and into the 4runner.
I blew the load out on my sweet 6' Wilson Silver Load because of a poor ground. So, I will be buying a replacement this week.
Just have to figure out where to mount my Midland CB. I am thinking of mounting it directly to the dash above the guages.

Here's how my friend mounted his in his Tacoma, I wanted to copy it, but am thinking of an interior cage next, so that wouldn't work. I have mine currently under my stereo/change bin..sqeezed between that and the plastic that covers the shifters....get me there? :D
MudShack 02-18-2002, 06:51 AM Here is how I mounted my CB on a Shelf-it (http://pic2.picturetrail.com/VOL5/149703/280033/7174887.ptp) in my Tacoma.
Too bad I have map lights to deal with now, or I would try to get my Tacoma shelf-it to fit in the 4runner. I really LOVED the CB set up.
