I finally broke a rear axle on my Samurai. I am running 5.14 gears and a mini spool in the rear, and still on 31's. I have a set of 83 Toy axles but not enough money to do it right. Can I run the stock toy gears (4.11) with 33's and my current t-case. If so I could get maybe some Aussie lockers and Sky's Hy-steer. I found a used set of offbrand 33's so later I could regear and get some baja claws. JC

Sure you can run it with the stock toy gears but your clutch is going to hate you. You need to get T-case gears. I'm putting Toy axles under my sami right now and i have the stock toy gears and a 6-1 t case and i plan on running 35's

it appears as though he already has t-case gears! ;)
As stated in my post, I have 5.14 gears, and I want to run 33's with stock toy gearing. JC

you'll be fine, though a bit on the over-geared side on the high way.

33's and a GRSII with 4.10's in the Toy axles will do pretty good. The GRS II has a hi range reduction of 18% and a Low range reduction of 115.
Just to compare, I run 35's, RRO 6:1, and 4.10's. The RRO case has a hi range reduction of 24%. Believe it or not my Speedo is spot on with this setup and I can run all 5 gears on the street and run 70 on the HWY if needed. You may be just a tad under geared for the road but it will be a great setup on the trail. Best of luck!

[thread hi-jack on]
would 4.37's in stock Toyota axles, with a stock Suki t-case be a decent set-up for a DD running 30's/31's? Want to get better t-case gears, but it jsut in the cards till i get a job this summer.

Foster, you can build a 4-1 for pretty cheap, get an sj410 case off of carpart.com for about 125-150 and then get someone to do the work..pm moto261 about getting it done, he did mine and did an excellent job at a great price..

Stock Gearing you should be fine. I am just getting finished with mine. I am going to run 33" SuperSwamper TSL radials with 4.11 gears and a GRS II. I ran the 33" tires on my stock axles for a while with the 3.73 gearing in my stock axles and I was able to reach highway speeds... 5th gear was usable on flat roads or going down hill, so with the 4.11's I should gain a little.
Take a look a the FAQ, and the pricing.... most of that is pretty close if you need it all. I thought I could get by cheap, but If you want to use it on the road you want to do it right.
