Rock-Wear 02-10-2005, 10:35 AM HOLY SHIT!!!! How many times in how many forums is this going to get posted???????
TheNerple 02-10-2005, 10:47 AM How many times, in how many forums do you do have to pad your post count with worthless stupid shit! Why don't you take your hurting pussy somewhere else and bitch to someone that cares? Obviously he didn't see the topic was already posted before he posted some pics I sent to him.
:crybaby2: :flipoff:
A simple PM to him would have let him know the topic was already posted and he could have remedied the situation. But instead, true to form, all you can do is bitch.
This topic was posted on suzuki board cause I run suzuki powertrain and some people would like to see some pics of my junk. I posted on the general board because I got a PM saying it was more general tech related. So if you don't like what I post, DON'T READ IT!

TheNerple 02-10-2005, 11:09 AM can some one say speed holes
I'm guessing you are referring to the leg cradle. That was done with an iron worker. It made quick work of the aluminum. I forget how many holes are in that thing but it's a lot. An ironworker is a must have for every wanabe home fabricator! hahaha
Like I told Wayne, I think I have been studying Gross Anatomy too much. I wanted it to look almost organic/biological. I'm kinda partial to it.
SammiGrrl 02-10-2005, 11:14 AM I think they look sweet. how do they affect performance?

Same here, very nice work. :grinpimp:
TheNerple 02-10-2005, 11:19 AM R U referring to the "speed holes" or the drilled rotors? In both cases it lightens it up. I shaved 1 1/2 pounds out of each rotor and it helps to dissipate the heat that builds up with the friction from the pads on the rotor. Plus it just adds that "custom" touch to your parts. Thanks
rotozuk 02-10-2005, 11:56 AM Amazing stuff.. Wait till you all get to see the finished product.. considering this is built by a guy that really doesn't have many tools himself, or even much garage space. Heck, do you even have a trailer or tow rig?
You sure you don't want to be a machanical engineer rather then a Doc?

TheNerple 02-10-2005, 12:08 PM You sure you don't want to be a machanical engineer rather then a Doc?
-Wayne[/QUOTE]
Well hell, I never even thought of that occupation! ahhaha Fabrication and mechanics is just an enjoyable hobby and I'd like to keep it that way. I dabble a bit in engineering enough to know what I need to know and that's good enough for me.
When you have a small garage it's hard enough to find the space to keep a buggy let alone have such unnessary things like tools! hahaha If you saw my garage you'd realize why I have a small buggy. hahaha
No need for a tow rig or trailer until you have something TO tow!
:D
rotozuk 02-10-2005, 02:59 PM Hey, I agree. I have a single car garage and no trailer or tow rig either. But those will have to change soon with the buggy getting closer. Looks like I have things lined up for Moab, after that I'm on my own.

Killer fab work for anywhere... let alone at home... in your garage...with your laundry.
Just kiddin'...looks REALLY neat.
StinkBug 02-23-2005, 12:39 AM So am I seeing this right, the winch is mounted under the front of the seat, and the fuel cell is mounted in front of that. I'm guessing your knees fit over top of the tank, and the winch runs out under the floor, am I right? I know Nelson mounted the winch in Scrapper in a similar location, but its quite useless and i'm betting you wouldn't put it in at all if you weren't gonna use it. Looks badass.

Exactly. the winch is about 2/3 under the seat and projects outward but still behind the leg cradle. The winch is a Warn 4.0 ci with a 4K capacity. The winch rope is 3/16 with a poundage of over 6K. All together the winch is under 20 pounds. Should do me fine for 90% of winch like getting myself off high centered stuff. For prolonged winching I'll just rely on my good buddy Rusty for Wenching duties!
:flipoff2:
Anywho I will make some sort of a guide for the rope off the front axle so as to miss the master cylinders. I am also going to weld some sort of small loop off the front clip so the winch rope will go from the winch to the front axle guide where it will go through and do a 90 degree bend up to the clip where the winch hood will attach so I can suck the front end down should the need arise. The tank sits 1 1/2 inches above the winch line so there isn't any clearance issues there. My knees do indeed go over the tank, though a person of lesser stature may have a problem. I am going to make a cloth/padded covering for the sides of the tank for my legs to somewhat rest on so that my legs will be cradled as well. Rusty and I filled it up with water and it holds exactly 5 gallons so I'm pleased. I figure I can run all day on that so the second tank behind the seat probably won't be done for a while. All said and done I should be able to carry just under 10 gallons which should last for a few days. The tank weighs in at just a hair over 6 pounds and I still need to figure out the feed and weld in the return fitting. It's a much better set up than I originally had cause now the weight of the tank is a couple feet farther forward and the seat reclines a lot more making the buggy very comfortable for me. I need to make some aluminum strap to hold the tank down and then finish off the pedal assembly. It's been a fun project but I'll be glad when it's done!

The wife likes the laundary there. Doesn't give me an excuse for coming into the house dirty! hahahaa
That's a pretty good view of what you see from the driver's seat. That thin tube connecting the shock hoops is streamline tubing. Pretty cool for that situtuation cause it lessens what is in your line of sight. The buggy is also at full compression.
I'm also going to mount a small fire extinguisher between the seat and the gas tank like they do for NHRA. Just trying to get everything in nice and tight where it needs to be.

:D Damn straight.
I would have a fire extinguisher there too, with the nozzle aimed right at my wedding tackle.
 :mad3: FIRE!
Save the crotch! Saaaaave the crotch!

I have one in the rear, and since it is a 2,000 lb rated, it should do the trick of pulling Eric out of the seat. :grinpimp:

You start that wiring yet?

TheNerple 02-25-2005, 01:16 PM I'll give you props if you can even keep up! :flipoff2: hahahahaha You better start preparing yourself for something a little more thought provoking than Johnson Valley!
I shipped the harness off to Brent @ TrailTough cause for 400 bones he will give me a bare bones, make the motor run right without all the flew flew crap, harness. It's the last major hurdle in this project and I didn't want to have to struggle through it and still be left with too much crap.

Thought provoking? I'm looking forward to taking mine to Pismo.. :grinpimp: But I want to add another 100 hp to really make that fun. How about those crazy hard trails up in Big Bear?
Wire harness: Sounds like a good plan. It took about 2 solid nights to thin my harness down the first time, and probably about the same for that Toyota harness, then some head scratching to make it join with the Suzuki bits.

EMIEVEL 03-16-2005, 05:45 PM Erik,
What did you mean by "a person of lesser stature may have a problem?" Will I be able to drive it? Not saying I'm of lesser stature or anything, but you got me nervous. I'll make the same deal with you that I did with Rusty. (a ride in the Porsche for a ride in the buggy...what? it only seats one? Okay, I'll drive.) Oh yeah, you thought it was a scary ride in the buggy, you better wear diapers for this ride! I do have to be a little more responsible though. If I were you, I'd at least act scared in the race car, cause you know I'd stack it up if I didn't think I was doing my job right!
My rig and trailer are available if you want to take it to Moab. I did Backdoor and Resolution last weekend and it did just fine. I'm trying to keep The Nerple looking nice but the demons get the better of me sometimes.
See ya buddy, have fun in Moab.
Chris

Actually they look very different.. Eric built his, and Rusty built his.

TheNerple 03-17-2005, 02:47 PM I just took a look at the pics from the General board on how you are treating my old baby and I have to sit and ponder how I would have to seek professional help to let you drive my new baby! But I tell you what, if you can manage to reach the pedals and drive it shifting with your left hand then I'd think about it. Course I'd have to drive your race car in the exact same manner you drive my buggy! Oh and you'd have to be responsible for fixing whatever was busted up on either of the cars! hahahaa
I'm skipping out on taking the buggy to Moab. It sounds like it is gunna be more hassle than it is worth with having to trailer it everywhere. Maybe next year when everyone else has their buggy. Plus I don't care to be a one man show. Anyway see you on race day!
As far as the headers go, Rusty and I both like the same twisted up style of headers and they look very different if you look at them with at least one good eye. So no one copied the other.
:flipoff2:
RedNeckRea 03-17-2005, 04:19 PM so will this be out at the bender jambo
i'd love to be able to admire both yours and rustys (isn't he shootin for the jambo too?)
baldy1 03-17-2005, 07:30 PM nerple, no disrespect. Inspired, or copied, the workmanship is inspirering.
I joined this board to be inspired and your work does the trick.
wayne, I know its not cool to jump threads, but where the hell are the
picks of your rig. Do I have to go back to san diego to see the finished
product?
rotozuk 03-18-2005, 10:07 AM Well, I ran into a snag that stopped the project in its tracks. Basically could not get back out to the shop. I'm planning on getting back to work on it tonight.
Last I heard Rusty is still working for the Bender/Toyot Jamboree or whatever it is getting called these days. Have not heard about Eric's plans, but hope he will make it to that event also.
You going to have those links in the back of your Toy by then? You need a hand?
