I've got a classic rangie with an Isuzu diesel (4bd1-t) and gearbox.

The conversion was done in a generally dodgy manner and I generally don't like the gear ratios (big gap from 1 too low, big gap 3-4 etc).
In the near future I'd like to put an auto box in this vehicle and in the process get a matching, newer transfer box.

My two questions are:
How much torque can the 4sp rover boxes handle? My engine was originally rated about 330Nm but had a penchant for destroying manual gearboxes (the aussie military used this engine in thei 6x6 rover ambulances). I'm running a little more fuel and boost at present but expect this to push over 400Nm by the time I'm done.

The other question is how can I make it fit? The engine has an SAE #3 bell housing bolt pattern. Is this a common enough pattern for off the shelf adaptors to exist?
