: Front end redesign

Since the rig is getting rebuilt, I decided to cut the entire front of the exo-cage off. I didn't like the look, and this will make the drivetrain swap much easier. :vader2: The inner fenders, grill, etc. comes off tonight.
Give me your ideas for a frontend redesign.

Did you do it all using those "Torch" brand blades in the Sawzall? Damn, those things rock. I couldn't believe how fast they went through grade 8 Ubolts when I cut the excess off.

Yep The Torch blades kick ass. I had to use a little bit of the blue tipped wrench also. :vader2:

Make it look like a Jeep again, I can remember when it use to look pretty good. :)

What are you looking for? I'd say, get the drivetrain in place first, then build a engine cage, bumper, & radiator support. Who needs body pannels? They just get in the way. You'll be able to keep the weight down. Clearance will be maxed. Visibility will be maxed. Engine access will be optimized. It should help keep things cool. What purpose do body parts serve? Just make sure you'll be protected from flying rocks. (I'm assuming water-proofing isn't needed and this is a trail only 'Jeep'.)

I'm thinking along the same lines as Fatty. :flipoff2: I think I like the idea of a Jeep frontend (hood, grill and tube fenders) and tube for the rear.

Do both. Every time I see a Jeep with tube bent in the shape of the original front clip, I drool. And I'm a Toy guy.

Bend tube in the shape of the original grill, and the fenders. Then get some nice, light, thin sheetmetal to fill in the space.

The tube frontend sounds like it would look killer. Does anyone have any pictures?

Rover frontend would kickass! But this is a low budget buildup. :)

Thanks for the ideas, keep'em coming! :usa:

One thing we had talked about when Barron's YJ was for sale was taking the body off and putting a Zuk body on it. Just imagine, not to mention how cheap you could get a body for...

Hmmm. That is an idea that never crossed my mind. I kinda like it!!! I'll have to do some measuring and think on that one.

Basically a tube front end with the hood, and original grille bolted to it. Sorry about the crap pick, but it was raining, and Mikey had just barrel rolled this thing at about 45 mph out at Sand Mountain.

That's a custom job on the bumper. I can modify yours to do the same if you want! :grinpimp:

Thanks for the pic Glo. If I can come up with a complete hood, I might go that way. It all depends on parts availability, and I have a line on a free slightly worn sammi body. :D

I know someone who will sell you a "Slightly used" one for cheap!

Seriously, Mike got a replacement hood for $125. Not sure where but I will find out and post it for you.

He got a replacement hood because of that little dent?!? I'll take the old one! :flipoff2: That would be the straightest piece of sheetmetal I have! ;) haha

Yeah he is a little picky about his shiat...I basically told him the same thing. I have foot print dents in the hood of the cruiser. :D:D Gotta love that!
