: 800 buildup

After a divorce a neighbor lady ended up with a 80A and a 800A both frame off with all the parts scattered throughout her yard. I helped her catalog the stuff and she put up a ad on the BB, and I have given others looking for parts her info to try and help her get rid of the stuff. In the rustbelt old shit like this just doesn't exist anymore. I see maybe 3 SII's on the road every year and maybe 1 80/800
Yesterday I stopped by to see what she had left, the 800A body on horses, the front clip of the 80A, and both frames. For this area and their age this stuff is in exceptional condition.

There are some kick ass offroad parks within a couple of hours of me opening up these days, and my SSII is just too nice to really flog on them.

If I got this stuff from the neighbor my inclination would be to go simple and cheap. It would be a trailer queen, 2 passenger, lightweight and as simple as possible. My basic idea would be to cut the thing in half lengthwise, narrow it about a foot and weld it together.

Powertrain would be a Buick SC 3800 which I have, 700R4, or powerglide, klune, 205.

Suspension, boneyard leaf springs F&R,

Axles eaton w/detroit rear which I have and boneyard 60 front.

Homebrew ram assist steering

Full cage

Tires in 40 inch range

Very liberal use of sawzall

Body would be welded directly to frame

Would there be any reason to seek out a SII frame? Or use the 80, or the 800 frame?

Id have a plasma buy the time I got started with this.

I would be a long way from even thinking about getting started on this, but raw material like these bodies are just so rare around here. i would have to pay for storage, possibly making the whole thing impractical anyway.

Please some advice on my ideas from the guys experienced with the early Scouts.

GO For it!! You will probably want the 800 frame as the cross members in the engine compartment will allow for move room for the engine. I know the 3800 isn't that big, but not having the tight engine compartment of the 80 will allow you to move it more freely. Other then that, I would say have fun!
