: tries to but won't start
panterarover 02-12-2005, 01:32 PM I have a 91 range rover county and the other day on the way to work my rangie started hesitating very badly. as the trip went on it got worse. a block from work it died and hasn't started since. I found that my vacuum advance hose had come off. I replaced it and it tries to start but won't fire for long enough to run. My dad said that the plugs were probably fouled and I needed to clean them. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
:mad3:
scrover 02-12-2005, 01:49 PM check the fuel filter and/or fuel pump
PTSchram 02-12-2005, 01:54 PM Oh for goodness sakes, here we go again.
Basics, go back to the basics (with apologies to both Waylon and Willie).
Does you gots spark? Fuel?
Determine which you don't have and we can go from there.
panterarover 02-12-2005, 04:02 PM it is getting spark.(tested the coil and wires) how can I tell if it is getting fuel. and yes i know this is basic but I'm rather new to this(learning everyday)

Not real easy on a '91.
Let's start with the easy one-can you hear the fuel pump run when the key is first turned on? If yes, crack open the fuel line at the injector rail , turn the key on and look for fuel to spray out the end of the hose.
panterarover 02-14-2005, 01:13 PM I found out that I am getting spark from the coil to the cap but nothing coming out. I replaced the cap and rotor but still nothing. any thoughts-bad distributor, vacuum advance, computer. I have no idea from here but to sell it off and get something dependable.
cptyarderho 02-14-2005, 02:10 PM Yep, I would sell it to me, $500 cash. I could use a parts vehicle :D

So when say nothing is coming out you mean you are not getting spark to the cap and rotor from the coil? Or do you mean from the cap to the plugs?
If you are serious about selling it let me know as I am not that far from you and might consider it for a parts truck. PM me and we can talk.
RoverChic 02-14-2005, 04:55 PM 1K cash. :flipoff2: Parts vehicle LOL
I might try putting the old cap back on and test that too just to be sure.
PTSchram 02-14-2005, 05:22 PM You guys are out of my league! I was gonna claim rights to first refusal as I provided real help, but oyu guys had to go bid it up betond where I can work with it :flipoff2:
It's a lot more expensive to break a truck down than you think.
panterarover 02-14-2005, 05:43 PM its not getting spark from the cap to the plugs. I have switched the two caps to see if that was the problem, it wasn't.
If you are seriuos buyers let me know. I have put about 4000 into this truck and want that back. It is in great shape there are so many new parts in it that $4000 would be a great deal as a parts truck. I could cut it up but don't have the time. all of the work I have done to this rangie I know how much the parts would save all of you. O f course you would have to pay the shipping.
I appreciate your help and still want your input

I would think your problem is your wires or your plugs then. Figures you breakdown on one of my busiest weeks. I am only a little bit over an hour from you.
panterarover 02-14-2005, 06:27 PM I replaced everything already. plugs, wires, rotor, cap, coil is 6 months old

How about the owner? That's the only faulty thing left in the equation.
[BTW...I'm guessing bad ground]
RoverChic 02-14-2005, 08:07 PM [BTW...I'm guessing bad ground]
I was thinking this as well. When you have the chance try this: Check your grounds. There is a ground cable going from the top bolt of the starter, straight over to the frame. Specifically, it is on a body mount bracket. Pull that nut and bolt, clean the cable end and bracket where the cable end contacts it. You have to clean it real well. So it's shiny metal.**Edit I forget that is for a Disco but it should still be applicable in same shape or form.
Cherub Rock 02-14-2005, 09:01 PM Never mentioned if you figured out it was a fuel problem...
It could be a bad fuel pump... get a pressure gauge and attach it to the nipple on the fuel line, it should read 30-33 psi..
DieLucas! 02-15-2005, 09:00 AM Never mentioned if you figured out it was a fuel problem...
He never mentioned it because he apparently has a spark problem...
panterarover 02-15-2005, 09:32 PM I put the pieceof sh** up for sale today. I really love this truck and it's abilities but with the mileage and the money that i've sunk into it I can''t take it anymore. I really appreciate all of the help and patience.

Panterarover :shaking:
dude, sinking money into it is the FUN part
as opposed to, you know, driving it
you sure you wanna sell it? as long as the fuckin' cylinders aren't locked up, I'm sure you could get it running...
selling a 91 rr seems like a pretty big hassle/losing proposition
panterarover 02-16-2005, 01:33 PM I am very sure that I want to sell. I want $4000 for it but that is negotiable. Any ideas as to where to try to sell it? besides here?
thanks,
Panterarover
Cherub Rock 02-16-2005, 03:09 PM try LRX, or discoweb (if it's still up..)
