: Ouch!

i'll have to rethink my grill hoop. this was a hard back roll but i want something that will take it. while the hoop did it's job as far as keeping the rad in one piece, it obviously pushed back and mangled my grill and hood. i also hit the winch but lukily the only thing that tweeked was one of the mounts. anyway.....

I'm looking, and my thoughts are that you either need braces at a 45 degree, back to the shock area or forward to the frame horns..........as high as you can get them on the hoop, straight if possible........
Or go to the top of your cage :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

From the plastic hood thread :D ...
Make sure that High5's hood is double thick...not that he has ever done anything to make me believe he will test the limits of the poly hood :flipoff2:

Glad your alright. I bet that was one hell of a ride.

where did you get those hooks?

The hooks look like Chevy Pickup hooks to me.

Those hooks are rubber and from Tracter Supply Company.

Brian! Wow! That is one reason I have not redone mine, I got the same amount of damage on mine without one when I rear-endo'ed.

Woody's mini-stinger kept his hood in better shape than the that did....

Damn, I bet that was loud!

The bent fender bars killed you. Looks like the DS crumpled. A straight bar from from the front hoop to the cage tacked in by the WS hinge mount might have helped but it looks like a hell of a roll.

add a few more tubes to connect the face, and a couple more for a engine rollcage

That would help. And/or you could put another hoop on the otherside around the radiator, then run 2 tubes through the grill to join them.

yes the d/s fender bar bent a little but it was very slight. the major damage was actually above where the fender bars tie into the hoop. i do plan on rebuilding it the same as what it was but i will be making some supports the go over the winch. the problem is they will have to be bent to clear the winch but it should help a lot compared to how it was.

they ment the tow hooks not the hood latches. i sure hope my tow hooks are not rubber. yes they were from the chevy truck i got my motor from.

if i had not had the grill hoop my radiator would have been toast alog with tranny/steering coolers and my electric fans. so even though it bent and tore up sheet metal it did save me about $500+ in parts.

i rolled being stupid. i watched a guy climbing a hill and he was having some trouble before he finally made it. i wanted to make it first try and i tried a little too hard :D the hill had a vertical ledge at the top and well you see the result.

Must of been a preaty hard roll, due to the fact that hoop bend in the middle.
Only a stinger will survive that kind of roll.

I'm with Justin on the radiator hoop idea. I like the way Mace set his up. Braces from the top of the shock towers going forward. Won't protect the hood, but will save the radiator. :)

LOOKS TO ME AS IF THE HOOP DIDNT DEFLECT VERTICALLY ALL TOO MUCH [IN THE AREA BELOW THE FENDER TUBES], ALTHOUGH I MIGHT BE WRONG. IT JUST FOLDED BACK+IN WICKED IN THE MIDDLE. RUNNERS TO THE FRAME RAILS/HORNS/SHOCK HOOPS MIGHT HELP SOME BUT DON'T YOU THINK IT COULD ALSO JUST BE A "TUBE THICKNESS VS AMOUNT OF FORCE BEING APPLIED IN A CONDENSED AREA" ISSUE?

I kind of like the smashed look. Low profile and better visibility.

The cink in the tube on the passsenger side tube was from a multiple roll over last summer. Was standing on it in reverse and went off a 5ft. shelf sideways, ended up doing almost 3 rolls till i ended up on the drivers side. Dom held up well and the way the front is protected as well. Looks like your cowl faired well. What caused my front tube work was my backflip up towards spider. Damage total- warn 9000 finished, one of two yellow tops, water pump bent, fan, radiator, hood, hinges, cowl bent,a pillar bent, grill and bezel. I'm glad your ok

not 100% sure yet. i will probably redo what i had and then add some braces that come down over the winch. it will add protection to the winch (which i did hit) and also help keep the hoop from folding back.

my shock towers were tied into the fender bars. as stated before the hoop really did not push back much. it just folded above where the fender bars tied in.

i am definitely going to have to brace mine a lot better. yours looks to be a lot beefire than what i had. i had actually rolled sideways several times in this rig with no issues. the endo did it in. which we all know the forces are different in the endo compared to the side roll.
