Just started thinking - the new Tacos and the soon-to-be FJ Cruiser have the 6-speed manual transmission. Might be nice to plant one in an FJ40/55. Any thoughts on this? 1st gear is 4.17:1 with 0.85:1 6th.

I've read that the 6-speeds come with an electronically controlled 2-speed transfer case - I'm thinking of dropping by the local dealer to see if you can get a manually engaged transfer case instead.

I really like the 6-speed manual in my '01 Chevy 2500HD - almost 65:1 stock crawl ratio with the 4.10s.

i have an 05 taco and i don't think it's geared low enough, besides that, the t-case is only available in electronic controll.

The six sped in your truck has a granny gear John, the Toyota six does not.
Apples and oranges.

If you want the granny get an NV4500 or 5600

everything else is a bit long for a 40.. And you dont have a 55 ;)
Course, I might not know everything ;)

The transfer case gearing is 2.57:1. With a 4.17 1st gear and 4.11 diffs (in a Land Cruiser) you're looking at 44:1 crawl ratio. An FJ60 with H55f or H41 and 4.11s is 41:1. Plus you get the extra gear for around town. For what I do, that would be plenty - and I've got other FJs to build for more serious 4-wheeling when I'm ready.

And you dont have a 55

You're right - still no Piggie in the fleet.
