There are about 5 different commonly swapped GM alternators, so more info would be helpful. If youre looking at a 12si, its easy. buy a new plug from kragen and red wire goes to the + terminal on the alternator(where the stock ~10ga blue and white wire attaches) and the white will need switched 12v with a diode in line to prevent back feed.

On my toyota alternators, it is marked "B". :D Sorry, not trying to be smart.

Here is what came out of my FJ45 when I went back to a 6 cylinder. It worked great. You'll notice the red with white stripe wire has taken the place of the white/blue wire in the factory harness. Also there is a diode just visible on the white wire, going to teh fuse block for switched 12V with ignition on. Red wire loops back to + terminal on alt. Or "batt" terminal, whatever you want to call it.
