: 2L OHC 4cyl...what is it?
bigboysbigtoys 02-14-2005, 10:49 AM I just was given SJ410 Suzuki. But's got some sort of 2L nissan. A really tall engine with a huge cam tower that says NISSAN OHC on top. There is a W58 casting on the right side of the head. Thats the only mark I can find on the thing and its driving me NUTS. I was told the engine runs well enough, but it doesn't have an intake or carb on it. And until I find what sort of engine it is, I can't really start looking for intakes and the like.
I'll try to take a picture of it in the next few days.
Hope someone here knows something about it.
Cheers
datz510 02-14-2005, 10:56 AM Oh, thats probably an L20b engine.. Those are GREAT engines.. pretty much bulletproof. Those came in the old Datsun 620 pickups and late 70s Datsun cars. The Datsun 510 guys use them in their cars for more power and they have been used for a lot of racing applications. There are tons of performance parts for that engine, as the L16, L18, and L20 all share nearly the same block and heads. You can also fit fuel injection, electronic ignition, and mix and match heads from other Nissan 4 cylinders like the Z series 2.4L. There are radical dual carb manifolds available, single carb standard manifolds, dual plane Offenhausers, etc.. everything from Dual SUs (I love these), to dual weber or Mikuni sidedraft carbs are available.
The W58 head will work. but its a standard round port smog head The A87 and W53s are the real jewels though, many with high compression peanut-chambers and no smog devices. With the right combination of parts, these engines can easily put out 170hp+ on pump gas with gobs of torque. There is a guy here in Phoenix that will build and tune these engines to almost any spec for $2-3k.
Check out this site for TONS of mod info for this engine.. also a good source for parts, as ppl are always selling exotic intake and header stuff on the Datsun 510 forums. Also check the links section, as there are a bunch of vendors now that cater to this engine.

makya 02-14-2005, 05:57 PM don't know if you plan on trying to get more power out of it, but this is what I'm working on..
L20b, L18 pistons, A87 closed chamber head giving 10.5:1 compression
stock head ports, mild port stock manifold, single Weber(dgv 32/36)
Stock cam, new timing set, sprocket on #3 position
'72-'74 620 exhaust manifold with 1.75" pipe off the manifold and a flowmaster.
I'm guessing about 25-30 hp over stock.
I got the info from these guys.

bigboysbigtoys 02-14-2005, 06:37 PM Just did some searching, and got some pictures of the L20, and that is what it is.
Thanks alot for all the info. The trucklette that its in is a total beater, and the install is HORRIBLE, so I don't know if I'll want more power or not. I'm going to build a manifold tomorrow to fit my Volvo Carb that I have laying around, so I can get it fired up and see if its worth tracking down the proper intake and carb that it's lacking. Its damn hard to find parts for these engines, around here anyway it seems. And I don't want to waste my money on a worn out engine.
Especially since it's mounted so high its sticking out like 4 or 5 inches from the hood and in all crocked. If I end up running this rig, I will have to move it back some 4 inches, and down as much as possible, right now the rad is sitting behind the cab.....
Actually, are these a slant motor at all? or should they be mounted straight up?

Do you mean that I could fit an intake and carb from a Z24 engine? or would the ports and such be different?
datz510 02-14-2005, 06:53 PM The Z24 intake is different.. You can drop on a nissan z24 head to get the crossflow intake and exhaust since the Z24 is basically just a slightly modernized L20b block.. it all bolts up.. Nissan was *very* good with interchangeability. They used variations of that that same engine design for almost 20 years in tons of different vehicles. The engine itself is a 4 cylinder version of a 6 cylinder design that Nissan/Prince Motors copied from Mercedes back in the late 50s/early 60s. They are very robust engines.
bigboysbigtoys 02-14-2005, 11:39 PM Sorry for dragging out this thread, but this is awesome really. What is intailed on changing out the heads? Just dropping it on? or is anything different, headbolts, headgaskets, timing chain...what?
I was just out messing around with the truck, and I'm getting so stoked on it, never thought that would happen over a POS Zuki....
Thanks so much for the info, and for anything else you can throw my way
Cheers
