My 91 soa YJ is getting a little crazy with the spring wrap. I broke my rear pinion yoke!
Ive seen the pics on here on traction bars. Ive searched :flipoff2:

I have a friend that came up with a idea that instead of using a shackle, that make a telescoping/traveling/slip through the upper arm???? Any opinions???

I would think it would bind & not want to move when there is pressure on it

That is what I thought. It sounds like something you will need to grease allot if nothing else. The shackle idea works and is simple.

if you have the angle of your bar so it lifts..instead of pulls..it could work....but its goin to get sloppier with wear....and what this does..is it lifts the vehicle....(the body) from the suspension..actually taking away from the tires....
the best is a two rod system that the bottom pushes and the top pulls...this way it cant wrap and the weight of the vehicle is pulled down onto the tires.

I had one like that on my cj for some time. The first one broke due to, too sharp of an angle from the lower bar. The second on broke the crossmember. The new one will have a shackle mounted setup. This seams to be the best for this type setup.

I use a goofy shackle set up.
The bushings give great wrap control, without being as rigid as a Heim.
The "goofy", allows for the side to side angle of the axle, even with extreme articulation, along with forward and rear travel of the rear axle as it travels through its entire suspension cycle.
It has nearly no adverse affect on articulation.
They only cost a few bucks, and are fairly easy to fab, but a little time consuming as compared to a simple shackle. However you dont have to keep the shackle bolts loose, to allow for side to side, so the axle wrap control, and power to the ground, is more positve,(and easier on the bushings).

I just had an anti-wrap bar built for my SOA YJ. We used a shackle also.

When building mine they used a shackel...simple, and effective.

So its basically a shackle with a twist. :D
This is a great idea, does everything a simple shackle will do except bind up. I like it.
