Hey guys I need some help. Good friend got a 79 F150. We rebuilt the 400 to make decent power. Problem is he totaled it shortly thereafter. He then got a 76 F150 that has a gutless 360. Both of these trucks have 3 speed autos but I'm not sure of the model. Both also have np 205's. Does anyone know for sure if the we swap the engine and trans from the 79 to the 76 if it will bolt to the 205. The engine mounts are no big deal if the transfer case will bolt up. Thanks for the help !
Cadtruck, what you propose is good to go. Both trannies are C-6. You're correct in needing to swap both motor and tranny as the 400M and 360FE use different bellhousings and the C-6 Bellhousing does not unbolt from the tranny. The easiest thing to look at may be swapping all three (motor/tranny/t-case) as a unit. If the tranny/t-case mount from the '79 doesn't match the '76 then just use the motor/tranny from the donor truck. Then use the t-case adaptor and Np-205 from the '76. Everthing should bolt up fine. Best of luck.
