I'm installing a 7 circuit Painless wiring harness this weekend to power accessories. For the ignition hot wire, which should I use? It can be any wire under the dash that has power only when the key is turned on.
Color of the wire and what it runs to would be great.
This is for my '76 FJ-40.
Thanks.

The wire you need is hot for ign? or acc? If its ign, key in normal running spot, use the black with yellow stripe. It goes to the coil. I would STRONGLY recommend using a relay. Run a ~10ga wire from the batt to the new fuse block, with a relay inbetween activated by tapping off the black and yellow wire. This will reduce the load on the 25+ year old wiring and keep the fuse blowing to a min. Also the extra load of powering the 7 extra circuits will drop the voltage availible to the coil by a bit, reducing spark output, etc... RUN A RELAY.
