: progressive coils for SAS

I'm copying this message over here from the general 4x4 forum, hopefully someone in here has an answer. It was suggested over there that coils from an early Bronco might work, anyone know if they're the same diameter and have the same mounts as the 78/79 Broncos?

-----------------------

It sounds like you guys might be able to direct me to the right people to find what I'm looking for. I recently did a SAS on my 89 Bronco, and I need to replace the front coils that I used (6" lift coils from a 79 Bronco) with some that are softer and allow more travel.

Here's the problem.

Here's witout the coils installed:

I found one place that will do custom progressive coils, but it's about $400, and I'm hoping you all might know of someplace that'd be cheaper. I may end up having to cut and extend the upper coil mounts, since my minimum length right now is 14" and extended length is about 33".

Any thoughts? Thanks, guys.

Coils for 66-77 broncos will work, I just don't know how muck lift you will get.

Get BC bronco 5.5" coils for a 351/with a winch and see how it sits. You may have to move your coil cups down for more lift but they will be very flexy.

Wild horses 4x4.com has good rock crawler coils also but I think the BC would be better b/c they are know to have a higher ride hide for the same claimed lift.

After posting this I was reading the thread on which coils are best for an EB, and got a look at this table... http://www.vintagebronco.com/coby/images/coiltest/coildata.htm

It looks like they're all just too short for what I need. I need about 19" of travel from the coils overall, and my ride height length needs to be about 19.5" or so. I guess it's gonna have to be custom coils. I've actually got room to extend those coil brackets upwards about 4" if I have to do it in order to get a long enough coil in there (to get the flex.)

Mabye I'll call and see what ft-lbs rates they're using tho. That could be very useful information.

The only place I've found so far that will do custom progressives is National Spring, anywhere else worth looking at?

Thanks
