Hello,

I decided to install my new push rods today- I have a 68 bronco with what I believe a 72 302 block and '66 289 heads with adjustable rockers and guideplates.

I followed the secondary procedure in my chilton's. I started the balancer at the 0 degree mark- which i am thinking is TDC. I then took the rockers off of cyl #1 and installed the new push rods and tightened them bak down till snug the 3/4 more of a turn and locked them.

I repeated this with 1/4 of a turn of the crank, and followed the firing order doing each cyl.

Here is the problem- got all done assembled everyhing except putting the valve covers back on-

NOW THE THING WON'T CRANK it will turn over and actlike it wants to crank but it just sounds like everything is off?

Please Help!

Also when I get this problem fixed can someone tell me how to tune my Edelbrock 1405-

Thanks

not sure what exactly your combo is - but with my adjustable crane rockers this is what I do - I put all the push rods in and tighten down all the rockers till they are finger tight, then I start at cylinder #1 - I rotate the engine till the exhaust port is all the way open, and then I adjust the intake valve to zero lash +1/2 turn - turn engine till intake is all the way open then do the exhaust and then step to next cylinder. This can be done much quicker - ie multiple rockers before turning the crank, but by doing them one by one, you are absolutly sure they were adjusted to the correct lash. for my lifter, cam, rocker specs it said 1/2-3/4 turn pre-load. At 3/4 it didn't feel to be running correctly so I backed them off and the engine runs much better.

Sounds like your valves are too tight (and aren't closing) so the motor won't start. It cranks, but easily. Just won't start.

Here's the way I like to do mine. You will probably need to loosen up yours quite a bit to get it to start in the first place.

With the valve cover off of one side, start the motor. Start at one end and loosen the valve until it starts to chatter. Then slowly tighen it until it is quiet. then give it another 3/4 of a turn. Move on to the next one. It is messy but it works perfectly. Good luck!

I solved the problem, they were too tight. Loosened all and got it to crank. Then i turned the crank until one valve opened completely and adjusted the other one through all 16. I then did it again b/c i had some ticking- running good now.
