Ok, so in went the new starter today. Hooked it up to a good battery and it still won't go. It will turn over now, with some strange squealing sound at first, but will not fire up. I don't know why it won't start.
Could it have something to do with the fact that the engine hasn't run in over 3 weeks?? Is it my fuel pump? how much of a bitch is that to replace? Could it be a simple fuse?

there is a wire that is called a crank sensor wire that runs from the bell housing to the fuel rail. If that is damaged or disconected your engine wouldn't start. but thats on a FI 4.0.
Not running in 3 weeks shouldn't have anything to do with it. 3 years maybe, but 3 weeks is nothing. And no, the fuel pump isnt hard to replace, just unpleasant cuz you have to screw with the gas in the tank. But it kind of sounds like you might need to go back to basic troubleshooting before you start just replacing parts - there are a million possible reasons why engines don't start. What made you suspect the starter first, and now the fuel pump?
Also, and this isn't a flame, you might get more help on the jeepsunlimited forum for this kind of question. I'm a newbie just like you, but from what I've seen these guys here are more into hardcore offroading. Several of the JU guys are really good at engine troubleshooting.

I had a similar problem with my 2.5 YJ. It was the crank shaft position indicator. Figured it out when I forgot to remove it while changing transmissions and pulled the pigtail out of the sensor. Check the wire for ware, mine was worn out at the sensor (it sits at about 9 o'clock on the bellhousing.
They are pricey, somewhere around $130-$150 (unless you know someone in the parts dept ;-). Since I've replaced mine, it's started on the first time everytime.
To check for fuel pressure, there is a schraeder valve on the fuel rail. I had thought the problem was with the fuel system at first and replaced the fuel filter...it didn't help much. My pressure was always fine.
good luck
