I have a 97 2500 chevy with a 454 that is acting kinda dumb.It isn't the same each time. When I start it it will surge from a normal idle to almost stalling. It'll be running and I try to take off and it'll act like it's stalling but if I clutch it,it will return to an idle. It's making me mad.I had my mechanic {that I use on things I can't figure out and I trust} put on a scanner and it showed to be a camshaft position sensor and a mass air sensor. We replaced both of them and still the same thing and the same codes. Also has kinda of a miss sometimes. Seems to be electrical. I need it to run good so I can trade it off. It has a 140k on it.I really don't want to take it to the dealership,I don't really trust them.

Did you check all your vacume lines for cracks and connectors?

have you checked the referance voltage at the ckp and map sensor or tps ? if you have any 5 volt referance sensor shorting to ground it will drop the referance to all sensors causing it to do odd things could be any number of sensors if that is the problem and setting a flase code also check the cal id on the ecm and make sure it is the most recent if not your ecm may need reflashed i can check if the id is current if you pm it to me you will need a scanner to get the cal id

You're above my understanding. What are ckp and tps? Where are they and how do you test them. There was approxamately 5v at the maf sensor. We were wondering if the new one could be bad.The maf reads 0 on the scanner and it's suppose to read like 300+. I thought the map was only on tbi.I don't think that it's a vacuum problem but I'm not experienced with this newer stuff. Thanks

with a cmp code it sounds to me like the dist gear is applecored and needs replacing--common on these . also what's common is vacuum leaks at the upper plenum, which would account for the surging and maf codes. good luck. DB

It was labeled eng-1,I think. In the fuse box under the hood.I still don't understand it.

It was more that the fuse. I took it on a 240 mile trip on thursday and it made it the first 75 fine but then it started blowing them every 15-20 min. Once blown it starts very hard lots of cranking and stalling.I bought a lot of fuses to get me home. I guess it must be a short.Any ideas.
