I would like to add a 3" body lift to my 83 K5. What I'm wondering is what will I have to do for a proper install. How will it affect the steering column mounted shifter and transfer case shift lever? Are there going to be any wires cables or anything else that will have to be made longer? Any help would be really great.

You will need to weld int the adapter for your transmission linkage, jus pull the linkage off the tranny and where it joins to the shifter on the end of the column, scribe a line in it that runs along the linkage, cut in the middle of the line, have the adapter welded in between the two peices making sure the lines are alinged. Your t-case shifter should be just fine, I would really consider buying a better intermediate steering shaft, borgeson units are great. Watch the filler hose to your fuel tank when lifting the truck, as well as any body to frame ground straps. Now would be a good time to replace those old ground straps with new ones anyhow. Keep a carefull eye on all your wiring harnesses when lifting the body, sometimes you might have to dislodge them from their stock anchors to help the stretch. I always use some 1/8 rubber belting to fill the frame to body gap created in especially around the front tires, if you dont then your engine compartment will get quite messy in the slick stuff, it also looks alot better then the huge gab between frame and body, that body lifts leave. I have always replaced the body mounts at the same time with new poly mounts, these are a little stiffer then the stock ones but are WAY cheaper and will last forever, the old ones are usually in pretty dismall shape now. I like to grease them up a bit to avoid the common squeak with poly mounts.

I really wanted to do the body lift because it was a cheap way to gain height. I guess I'm just going to have to dump the money into the truck for a suspension lift.
